TCE Brake Kit and Bill Harper Control Arm Install

WARNING
Installation of any component or kit should only be performed by persons experienced in the installation and proper operating of disk brake systems. It is also the responsibility of the person installing any brake component or kit to determine the suitability of the components or kit for that particular application.

The following are the parts I recieved from TCE and Bill Harper plus the new control arm shields from Dal Slaughbough..

13" Rotor Front

Modified Spindles

6 Piston caliper

New hubs,brackets and SS brake lines

New bearings, pads and seals

Powder Coated Upper Control Arm

DelAlum bushings

Lower A-Arms (5/8s Ball Joints)

Reinforced Lower arm

Upper Ball Joint

Control Arm Shield

Installation Proceedure

 

Disconnect negative battery terminal

Remove Intermediate Steering Shaft *

From the Factory Servive Manual...

NOTICE: Ensure that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead and the ignition switch is in "LOCK" position. Failure to do so may cause the steering wheel to rotate, causing damage to the SIR coil.

Pull the steering shaft shield to the rear and remove bolt from the forward coupling. Push the shaft rearward to disengage. Remove nut/bolt from upper shaft coupling. Remove shaft.

* Only required if changing control arms

 

Jack up car, Chock wheels, place on jackstands

Remove wheels

Remove sway bar end link nut from bottom Control Arm

Disconnect tie rods from spindle

Here I'm using a tie rod/Pitman arm puller. You can also use a pickle fork.

Fashion an S hook from a clothes hanger or heavy wire

Remove Calipers and support using S hook

This keeps the weight off the flexible brake line.

Remove Shocks

Note: Using the pictured shock tool available from parts store saves a lot of time.

Remove dust cover,cotter pin, wheel nut, and rotor

Keep track of the washer and nut, you will need them later.

Remove dust shield

Three 13mm bolts. These will not be used with the new brakes.
