factory security in 9c1?

Got a 95 9c1, th8s shop is tryn to tell me there a factory security system on my car. I'm pretty sure he's blowin smoke.

He's probably referring to the VATS system.

Would that allow the car to star then cit it off cut tho. And would u have to find codes to clear it

9C1's do not have the vats system so that every officer could get in any car and have them all keyed the same for their department. There was no vats in the cruisers that I have ever seen.

To be absolutely correct, there IS a VATS system in '94-'96 (and maybe earlier) 9C1's, but it is disabled. There is a white wire under the dash that takes the place of the resistor circuit through the key. With this, the VATS module always sees full reference signal voltage, so the car will always start and run. Also, 9C1 VATS modules never 'learn' a resistance value because of this. In my old '95 9C1, I tapped into this white wire and added a hidden toggle switch under the dash. Switch on, all is well. Switch off, and the car will not stay running on the next startup.

To be really accurate, it's half there

The theft deterrent relay is not there on the 9C1
The start wire goes directly from switch to starter.

The VATs module's sole purpose is to "tell" the PCM it can run the injectors.

Cletus , you say the VATs module never learns a resistance value.
So are you saying it is still "green " and could?

I was under the impression , and possibly wrongly, that the 9C1 module had learned that no resistance is required

So u just ran a two prong switch on the wire? U got a pics

[Is this it on the drivers side over the ebrake attached to a green connector
