Tailgate rod must be manually pulled on open?

Hey, I'm not sure if it's better to ask here or the Longroof Forum (I'm new there; not here.)

But my tailgate only opens when I manually pull the rod while operating the latch (either one.) I figured that would be the solenoid but I replaced that and it's still not working. I took the whole lock apart and bought replacement linkage from salvage but it all looks the same as mine. It's been like this since I bought it so I don't know how it's supposed to work but I guess it's not like this.

I took a video of the issue here:

Any help would be most appreciated!

How difficult is it to pull the lock/unlock rod into the unlocked position?

The handles should not move much when the gate is locked...that part is normal. It appears that there is something binding or bent in the locking mechanism. I can not see inside, so I can not give any further opinions.

Thanks for the reply, Fred. It's pretty difficult to open. I broke one plastic lock pull thing and it takes a fair amount of effort with pliers to lift it. I'll see if I can get a video of the inside tomorrow.

The rod should pull relatively easily, so there is a binding somewhere. That is where you should concentrate your efforts. I will PM you.
