Front end alignment issues/93 Buick roadmaster wagon

  • Hi, we have front end alignment issues with our 93 Buick Roadmaster wagon. Has been wearing down the front passenger side tire. What can we do to change the alignment?

Alignments are difficult to do without the proper equipment. I just take my car to a mechanic and ask him to align it.

The first time he told me that the idler arm was bad. I paid him for the time spent troubleshooting, replaced the idler arm, and brought it back for an alignment.

You only have one tire wearing? Odd scenario but I guess not uncommon, as Nick stated take it to a shop and have it aligned, easy enough. Make sure when they are done aligning it that you get a full print out and if anything is in red question it. Alot of shops charge about 60 bucks these days and do a toe and go and call it a day. If you are having one tire wear more than the other then this would indicate that you have a camber/caster issue on that side more than the other and it will need to be changed. Good luck

There is either a dedicated Stickie on tire wear indications, or you can search for the thread on the topic within the past 1-2 months in Tire/Wheels Section. I believe it was started by username "Firewood Will Rise Again".

You may have lost the shims from the PS. You could also have a broken belt.

The way you can check it at home, is to use a small carpenter's level that will fit inside your rim, and a protractor. The top of the wheel should be slightly further out than the bottom. You can use a straight edge, the protractor and level to determine what the angle is. It should be about .8 degrees. You have to make the measurement on level ground.

Straight edge vertically on the lip, protractor center, and end of the level matched. read the bottom of the protractor. Actual specs are in the FSM.
