I never take the Impala out in winter conditions (just started it for the first time this year), but even I am worried about that myself. So many rusty Caprices and Roadmasters in my area! That sounds exactly like the condition my stock (or "stock" ?) exhaust was when I bought it last summer.
And yeah, I don't think I'll ever be buying Pypes anything again.
I was actually thinking about buying Borla early this year and selling the current parts, but that won't be happening just yet since I lack the ability to uninstall/install myself, and my other vehicle is undriveable as of 3 hours ago. Stay tuned.
