CIA Headers rusting?

Is this normal? I bought with the ceramic coating and have had them on my car for a little over a year and they are rusting.

I've read elsewhere where the "chrome" Chromex coating fails in relatively short order - especially if exposed to salt or damage. The black Chromex tends to hold up a little better. I have a coated CIA set on my car and they're pretty ratty. I'll be buying gen2 stainless ones here pretty quick and then sending my gen1's off to be re-coated.

While CIA build a very good header, the coating service they use sucks big time. I know from experience. That is why I always suggest that people buy the headers raw, and get them coated locally

You might check this out if you decide to send them off for coating again.

Here's mine, they do have a scratch but that was from a hard hit during install. It's a tough coating...

Evidently yeah...lol

I have Kooks on my Corvette about 4 years now and they are fine. I also had a set of Kooks that I bought used for a couple of years on my GTO and to my knowledge they are still on the car and still not rusty.

normal ? no. Common ? yes.
I lost a set of tri-ys to rust perforation. The lifetime warranty should read: warrantied for one re-coat per lifetime.

edit: I drove the car in the winter in Quebec. Visible rust requiring re-coat occurred after 1 winter. Perforation occurred after 2 years.

Coupled with the place listed above, that's some great advice.

Garage
I have used jet Hot coating on 3 headers/vehicles and all still look good.

headers on the SS were coated 17 years ago and still look good. Granted I don't see road salt/sand here in Calif but do drive the car in the rain...YMMV

Yeah the AS&M ones that were on the car were there for at least a decade - and were wrapped - and were totally fine.

What a bitch it's gonna be to pull them off and send them out and wait for them to be recoated.

Even with a warranty on the coating from Performance Coatings I would never use them again. So I'll have to send them somewhere else. Or just wait for them to rot and buy new ones.
