Anybody know where I can get some 2-1/2" or 3" headpipes like the old export pipes so I can have some CARB approved 2-1/2" or 3" cats welded in? It just doesn't make sense to me to weld in the larger cats on the stock sized headpipes, especially when I upgrade to a 383 or 396 in the near future.

As someone mentioned earlier in this thread if you installed aftermarket cats prior to the law change requiring the CARB OBD2 stamp the shop can not fail you for not having that stamp on your cats. I have the Catco cats everyone here is talking about and I bought them several years before the law change so they do not have the new stamp on them yet I have passed the visual inspection with them several times since 2000. As long as you pass the tailpipe test and do not have non CARB approved parts installed you will not have any problems with cats that don't have the new stamp. It's a good idea to either have all your CARB stickers placed on your radiator core support or in a folder when you go in for a test. I have all the stickers in plain view and paperwork for each part showing the CARB EO #. Most of the techs I have dealt with have thanked me for having the info and stickers which has always made the process smoother.

I've a used driver's side OEM cat w/ the AC stamped on it. PM me if that's what you're after.

Steve
go buy CATS that are 2 1/2", Calif approved and have the muffler shop fab up 2 1/2" head pipes

With the "new" laws in Calif. you can't install 2 1/2" on a car that didn't come with that size so check with your local shop, they may not care.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I thought I would post my 'long-term' experience with the Catco cats. About ~3 years after installation, the driver's side failed internally (they catalyst honeycomb chunked to bits and dislodged, causing significant performance issues). So... buyer beware.

Wow. that too bad.

My Catcos lasted longer (6 years) than the car they were on.....which got totaled.

Guess like any product.....some bad ones will slip through quality control.
