Wipers not working. Can you hot wire?

Since I've had the '95 Caprice Wagon, the high wipers never worked. The rest of wiper functions mostly worked but have been intermittent at times. Now it finally appears they've finally given up. I'm assuming it's something with the switch since the previous owner said they're was a failed theft attempt and they opened up the steering column. My airbag light is on, too. I know I still need to buy the FSM but I believe there's a connector for the wiper stalk under the dash. Is it possible to hot wire the wiper on low just to get me by until I can pull the column apart?

It is possible that the Circuit Board on the wiper Motor itself is the problem. They are known to cause issues and regardless of the Column issue, this could be the problem. Check the Wiper Schematic and see about applying voltage directly to the motor and see what happens.

It is the black "box" on the wiper motor. They are notorious for failing.

Damn. Was hoping that was it but I swapped out the module with another car and still not working. The module is working in the other car. It looks like if I supply 12v to the pink wire, the wipers should run. Is this correct?

Not sure myself but it looks like the Purple Wire goes to the motor. Attached is a link to the Schematic, maybe it will help.

Maybe use the schematic to trace each wire for continuity and make sure the runs all go where they need to.

If the motor's good then putting 12v on the purple wire should give you high speed wipers. Does your washer motor work?

Washer pump doesn't run either. Maybe a bad ground? Can I ground the case to test?

Feel free to ground the case but I doubt it will help. It appears that you have a 12v power issue to the steering column or a bad washer/wiper switch. Since the pump doesn't use any timers or relays or anything else but 12v power you seem to have lost that power. Are you sure the fuse is good and if so check the power at the plug on the steering column that goes to the wiper/washer switch. See if you have power on the yellow wire.

There's a whole gaggle of ground wires on the driver's cylinder head by the ICM. They're all on the same stud. Wiggle and pull on those to see if any are broken.

It could be the Stalk but I would be checking the easy Stuff first. There are 3 or 4 Ground wires that are mounted to the DS Cylinder Head and the schematic shows both the Wiper and Pump being grounded there.

If it were me (and I've done this before) I would first pull the Ground wires from the Stud near the Coil and clean each Metal Ring as well as the Head area to assure a good connection to ground. While the wires are also removed, be sure that the metal ring on the end is not broken and securely crimped to each Wire.

I had some weird Electrical stuff going on under the hood once and traced that back to a Broken Metal Ring on one of the wires. Ended up re-crimping a new connector to the wire and it's been fine since. Also use some Dielectric Grease on the connections to help keep them clean.

Finally got under the dash and probed the connector. Power is there on the yellow/white. Switched to high and probed the purple but got no voltage. I jumpered the back side of the connector with a paperclip from the white to purple and the wipers run. I guess that means I need to pull the steering column apart and replace the stalk. Hopefully I can figure out why the airbag light is on as well.

BTW, I thought my ignition module went bad a while ago so the grounds were cleaned up at that time. Thanks for everyone's help!
