Hi, i want to put impala mirrors on my 94 caprice.....can anyone please tell me all the part numbers, and specific items/parts i will need to buy to do this mirror swap?.....someone else will do all the labor, i just need to know EXACTLY what to buy for them to be able to do it....
and also my caprice has the electric mirror on the driver side, and the non mechanical on the passenger side (the kind where you just adjust them with your hand)....so after the new impala mirrors are installed on the caprice, will they work the same way the CAPRICE mirrors do now after they are installed?

Thanks

What are you looking for? 94 style mirrors that mount in the door or 95+ that mount in the a pillar area? You can both on ebay. Power or no power. Part numbers not needed.

Or contact fred kiehl, he has used parts to sell as well.

The same questions and comments you had. The only thing to add is whether anything on an SS gets heated like my FWB.

To do the swap elegantly, you need the 95-96 doors complete with mirrors. You may or may not have the wiring for the passenger's side electric mirror. You can check for it at the top, front of the door panel behind your interior panel. If you do not have the wiring, you can get the whole donor car cross car harness and replace yours. I believe all of the electric mirrors are heated.

You can get the doors from any 95-96 B-body and they will bolt up. If you remove the stop pins from the donor, you can open the doors farther, and make it easier to remove them. If you try to take the hinges, you will have to remove the fenders, because the hinge to pillar bolts are under the edges of the fenders. If you can not find a B-body, the basic doors are the same for the D-body (Fleetwood), but the exterior window trim is different. You need the sweep, triangle and top reveal from the Caprice.

Your interior pieces will fit, but If you get the doors from a Roadmaster, or Fleetwood, you will have to move your arm rest supports to the donor door, and remove the top attachment supports. You do need the window reveal on the outside, the triangle, and the bottom wipe. If you are careful, and remove it without damaging the clips, you can use your plastic interior reveal that surrounds the top of the window. To remove the interior reveal, you must carefully remove the run channel except for the part the goes into the door at the rear. You can then see the clips for the trim, and work the off of the window frame in a systematic way so as to not stress them. A little at a time, keeping the clips from deforming the plastic. The clips are easy to break loose from the reveal, and extremely difficult to reattach.

My '94 has '95 mirrors, already on car when I bought it.

I got mirrors and lower door window/corner trim pieces from a roadmaster to make install cleaner, and replace broken mirror.
It was easy to clean up PO halfassery install, and looks better with correct parts vs. making '94 work.

haha All too often I'm in only to offer a little peripheral info just waiting until Fred happens by to serve up his trademark skunkworks level intel.

A little info on wiring up a non power car...

If you already have power mirrors, having the harness in place already would save a lot of wiring hassles. My 95 Caprice only had pwr Windows and locks in the doors. To later add pwr seats and mirrors (heated also), just found it way easier to use pigtails and build my own harness than remove the entire harness to replace.

No one knows where "around here" is for you (put your zipcode in your location).

The parts will probably require separate purchases for each, if you are going to go that route. You may not need the upper reveal, if you are lucky, but you will have to remove it to install the triangle. You are going to hope the body repair guy gets the doors to look like they have never had the dimples in them before getting them painted. You are going to paint the doors either way. You will also have to drill holes for mounting the 95-96 mirrors in the triangle area, because the factory did not need holes there with the door mounted mirrors. You need to make sure that they are drilled in the correct locations, and of the proper size. If you, or whoever drills them, mess that up you will have problems. You need a template to get the holes right.

It has been done by filling and drilling the older style doors, but it is not much difference in the amount of work to install the newer doors (probably somewhat less), and you can do the installation labor yourself (4 nuts, and run some wires), and save a lot of money.

It is expensive to ship doors, so I understand that. It would be nice if you had a local P-N-P junk yard to pull parts from. With the age of these cars, and the limited availability of parts, it is usually a "gather parts until I get them all before I start installation" project. Getting two complete doors is a lot easier than getting all the little parts. Most people who sell parts do not want to remove the parts you want from a good door. You can also sell your old doors, and recoup a lot of the cost for the "new" doors.

I would put a "parts wanted nearby" thread in the parts wanted section, to see if anyone near you is parting out a 95-96. You might find someone near you who is parting out a car.

PS. I checked ebay, and they did not show any doors for a 95-96.
