I used dishwashing detergent and that worked pretty damn well... I did like 6 flushes with it, flushing it out everyday. It seemed to pull a lot of stuff to the resrrvoir. I just had water pump off this weekend and it looked pretty clean and the coolant has stayed a beautiful green as well. Cost me 4 bucks.
dish washing soap is an acid so it will work over time . the acid is not all that much but enough to clean it up..
the coolant system can handle higher acid amounts . a good flushing is required when this is done to remove all the acid. perhaps a neutralizer like a few ounces of baking soda when flushing .
I have used vinyl cleaner which is also an acid. made for cleaning vinyl chairs and pool stuff.
Only thing is... they removed most of the phosphates from DW detergent. It's not as good as it used to be. I have heard of people using CLR in high quantities as well. That's obviously an acid as well..
CLR does appear to be the used product now with those who messed up .... meaning they have a clogged dirty coolant system.
I haven't had these issues since when I got into the distilled water back in the early 1980's. family member owner radiator shop instructed me on this. he saved me a lot on his distilled water use.
