No start fix...and a bonus

So, last week the wagon wouldn't start one day.
Took half a dozen tries, it would just click.
Didn't happen again for several days.
Next round it stranded me for ~5 minutes.
The next time ~10 minutes to get it started.
Yesterday it wouldn't start @ all, just click.

So today I went out to find problems and fix it.
Cleaned aux. stud & cable end...no help.
Cleaned battery cable ends (nasty)...no help.
Starter cable end was next, it was slightly loose & dirty.

Here's where the bonus comes in. My CTS pigtail was MIA when bought car. I finally found it. Wedged between block & starter lmao!

So far after cleaning all cable ends it's working normally again. Hopefully it's fixed. Probably combo of dirty cable ends and loose connection.

I think I'll have a new + cable made up, looks to be original and surely can't hurt.

And it's NOT fixed...had to try twice this morning to start it, first attempt just yielded a click.

I think the remanufactured in mexico starter a PO had installed is in need of replacement.
Probably just the solenoid, but honestly from past experience it is usually better to just replace the whole thing with a better quality unit.

Hopefully it remains a minor nuisance until I can get around to replacing it, and doesn't leave me stranded somewhere.

.....
CPS? The Crank Position Sensor is the only non-starter wiring I recall running around there. If so, did reconnecting remove a P0336 code?

I believe it fishes back along at the pan and block to the bellhousing, but not swearing to anything and gave up interest when the new sensor did not fix anything. At some point within another 1 1/2 years I'll have to tear it all down as emissions won't allow a second waiver on that fault.
