Paper Oil Filter Adapter - Lubricate on install?

Folks,
I'm doing the upgrade of my '98 Tahoe (5.7 Liter) oil cooler lines, similarly to what the folks have done here a bunch of times.

I never looked it up in mt B-Body book when I did this to my 9C1, but I was looking thru the FSM for the Tahoe and it stated that the paper gasket should be well lubricated upon install.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why to lubricate on install?

Thx.

being paper gasket and having worked on many valves / rebuilding etc. the lubing is done so that the gasket will not distort because of one area of gasket swelling where the oil gets absorbed. so you want the complete gasket evenly coated .
