Initially I was going to post this thread in the Heating/cooling section, after "diving" into the problem I thought different. For about the past four weeks I have occasionally smelt an odd odor when driving, my feet are clean! Odor seemed to disperse when the AC was running? This afternoon I decided to find the source. Checked under the driver's seat and nothing. As I leaned into the front passenger compartment I found it to be totally soaked, not damp, not wet but heavily soaked. I did replace the heater core on February 17, 2016 and replaced the AC compressor, accumulator, orifice tube and all O rings on August 15, 2016. It was about the time I changed the AC compressor that I first detected the smell. Initial thought the NOS AC Delco heater core I installed during February **** the bed prematurely.
Started by draining the radiator that seemed to be full as the overflow tank? Secondly I removed the front passenger seat, rear seat and disconnected the passenger seat belt mount from the floor. Lifted the soaked carpet and padding to find about 2" of water in the rear compartment, enough for a small fish pond!
This was without question water, not the orange colored Dex Cool thank God, don't need stains on this carpet. It was the very last NOS carpet GM had in 1995.
Tomorrow I plan on removing the lower passenger dash panels so I have an unobstructed view of the heater core and firewall area. I hope to have the wife's help, she can be in charge of the air hose. Directing a flow of air from the outside cowling and along the passenger firewall I hope to find the source of my new pond.
For sure I know the water is coming in at the firewall area because when I press on the padding that covers that area water drains out! This evening I vacuumed all the visible water out and have fans running all night.
Please chime in if you have any ideas or have experienced this problem!
I thank you very much for the time. God bless, Larry
