LT or LS??? Which engine should go in my SS?

Been thinking about souping up my SS. But I don't know whether to put an LS based motor in or keep the old bulletproof LT1 and add some go-fast parts. You can make some good power with the LS engines, but the LT1's are DIE HARD! Any suggestions? Anyone done either of these? And what do you think??? What should I do???

if you have the money an ls engine is a better engine. if i were to leave the LT1 in my car at the least i'd convert to coilpacks and dump the opti

How do I go about that? Where do I get them? Is it better with coil packs?

You can get more bang for your buck with the LT1. Spend some time on this forum looking around at what sort of performance some guys are getting out of their LT1's and without converting to coil packs. Thoughtful mods copying what has been successful for others here is the way to go. You will be able to identify the guys who know what they are talking about in a fairly short time. Good luck!

Cool. Thanks. I know buying an LS engine is already expensive and THEN doing mods. And they aren't as dependable as the good ole LT1.

I have no idea why you would think that... what does an LT1 have that makes it more dependable

I know a few people who have had the LS engines and have had problems that have made them have to come out. Out of all the years I've know about them, I've only know ONE LT1 to have to be replaced. And we drive hard down here. My rear main seal went out in mine a few years ago and I drove it 3 hours at 95 mph. I was waiting on it to blow but it never did. Without a drop of oil in it.

Check out Golens Engines in NH. When I get ready to go faster I am gonna go with them. They do some sick S$#& to an LT1

Cool. It may be a while before I do anything cuz parts are NOT cheap! And i need to find someone closer to MS!!!! LOL
