Where to add freon?

Where exactly is the fitting on our cars do you to attach the hose to add freon ? I see two of them . I have a 96 Impala.

if I tell you, will you promise to take it to a shop if the ac doesnt cool any better after you added freon?

you want to add it to the fitting on the acumalator , ac on and idling.
try not to over charge it, orifice tube systems are dependent on pressures to keep the evaporator from freezing.

FWIW - they are different sizes - it only fits on one.

grandpas wagon

I just did mine today, if you want to do it right buy a new accumulator, install it, do a vaccum check, then add the freon (the port is on the side of the accumulator that points torwards the battery.

If you have a small leak, Adding some R-134a is fine. It will get you by for even a few years.. If you find a spot somewhere in the system that is wet with compressor oil, You have a big leak and its best to service the system.

The Fill side (Low pressure side) is on the Accumulator or receiver drier depending what you want to call it. The High side port (Dont touch that when charging) is near the battery/ coolant tank screwed into the high side pressure line.

When the low side is around 30 PSI on a decently hot day, It should have enough R134a added.
