Chevy SS - Kaput!!

Looks like the Chevy SS will be discontinued from Chevrolet's line-up. A member from the local Club just forwarded a link to this article.

I rode in one that a fellow poster had dressed up and it scooted around quite well. He admitted the unnerving-to-objectionable absence of style, but made the perfect business case that you completely forget what you're driving when behind the wheel. All that, but still with what has to be the most perfect drivetrain in a decade (or 2)? How does GM keep getting it so PERFECTLY wrong? Makes you want to just go find a totaled one and a 'anything else' for a project. Figure the depreciation curve right on this one and you got the perfect future collectible eh.

2 things killed this car. Styling... The wimpala looks more sporty than it and price... Good gawd 50k!

This price of new cars is just absurd. The used market is going to continue to blossom because every year fewer and fewer Americans will be able to afford new vehicles. The most craptastical A2B ****box is still like 20k.

The SS is one car that I want but just cannot justify.

LOL......what killed this car is that GM never intended to sell more than 3300 of them per year. More than two years later, people still approach me wanting to know WT-actual-F is up with my car.

GM made no effort to to market the car (essentially, zero $$$$ advertising). There's no way for people to be interested in a car if they don't know it exists.

As far a styling is concerned, it's not like our spruced up taxi cabs/police cars are cutting edge in that category.......

And as for pricing.....the SS is more than competitively priced against other brands, equally optioned, in it's class.

All that......and there are no B-bodies that have ever been more fun to drive.

Damn shame the car is being discontinued.....but that's life.

General Motors kills Holden, leaves the Aussies with no domestic manufacturing, but steals the Commodore, rebadges it as a Pontiac, kills THAT, steals the new one, rebadges it as a Chevrolet, kills THAT, and all the Aussies got out of the deal is a bunch of rebadged front-wheel drive Opels with a Holden badge?
No wonder GM sucks...

And this guy's doing better than me. I can't tell most of the Chevys apart from each other right now. (Note: same problem with Cadys but I at least know that they're Cadys.)

It has nice bones, but why did they make it look like a crappy Malibu?

This iteration of the SS was being killed regardless of sales. It's tough to continue production when the platform is being obsoleted and the factory at which it was built is being shut down.

Sucks, but it's a niche market. We'll see what happens in the next few years regarding a possible replacement.

Well, I'm sure Holden phasing out production of such cars has something to do with it as well.

It really is a copycat of the GTO situation. People like to blame lack of marketing, etc. for why the car never sold and why it was only a 3 year run. The Monaro was already scheduled to be killed off by the time it was brought to the US.

sadly, just like the GTO and G8 GXP, they never made the SS available for sale in Canada. One of the few cars I'd have shelled out for new.

You don't want either car these days. Body parts are hard to come by and a minor accident by most accounts will result in insurance totaling the car.

When I sold my GTO headlights alone were $800/piece.

I imagine the SS will soon go that way too.
