Heads and cam

Those heads came from Navy Lifer who had them done in Cali. They are good heads. ERE-7 Ver 2.0 with Advanced Induction heads made the same HP/TQ as did the original build. Bought 3 inch exhaust from Dan and the motor made 420 HP to the wheels. Probably could have bought the exhaust and saved 2K on the heads. Live and learn.

Hey Allen. I didn't know Bill was the original source of those heads. That almost makes me want to keep them now. That's a lot of history in there.

Thanks for weighing in on this.

396

You could ship the parts to Karl E for assembly. I have a neutral balance flex plate I will donate to the cause if you decide to put it together. With 396 CU you should be well over 450 HP to the wheels. Maybe even close to 500 HP...

I really wasn't wanting to mess with shipping the short block. But if you're really serious, shoot me a PM with an offer I can't refuse.

I appreciate the offer. I have a T56 though. I could actually do the assembly myself. I've built many engines over the years, though most were big block and first gen small blocks. This would be my first LT1 but they are nearly identical to 1st gens, especially in the lower end.
This short block has actually already been fully assembled before. So all of the clearances have already been checked and set for rings, bearings, rod-panrail, etc.
I had every intention on putting all of these parts into this project. The chamber size on the heads was gonna put the CR at 12.6:1, which is still workable on an LT1, but probably gonna require 93 octane and a very careful tune. The upside was the potential for 500+HP rwhp. The heads are now sold.

I still have the other pieces. I'd love nothing more than to finish this someday and get back to the track again. I'm still fighting health issues and honestly don't know if that will ever happen at this point.

The heads that were listed (now sold) were part of an Ellwein build for a fellow Middle Tennessean, AllenIDOXLR8.

However the lower end was never associated with Karl. I apologize for the confusion.

This engine is definitely a 396, or for the absolute purist, it's technically a 398 due to the .040 bore.
