Car towed then I took it back , whats going to happen ?

Hey guys , the month of April has been horrible....

Recently my car was towed because the apt complex says that the car has been stored with no tags. I paid 694.00 dollars for the tags and i recieved a move permit to have the car smogged , but first i wanted to put my exhaust manifold on bechause i was having an exhust leak and the pass.manifold was the culprit and the car will not pass smog in this condition. So me putting all the money i put into the motor alone i did not want to mess my car up do to the rich condition the manifold was causing so i was not driving it much until i install the manifold then i was going to take it to pass smog .

So when my car was towed i went down to the tow co. with the 220 dollars which i had to pawn several valuable things to get, i had my licenced driver and my keys , all i was missing is the proof of reg but i had alternative proof which was taped to my back window but it was missing my signature which was petty imo . So i asked him if me having my keys will serve as proof., He was just being a dick .I could have went to the dmvthe next day but i could not afford another days storage and i knew that extra day would have turned into several days and the fees would have been to deep to get my car out .

So me being frustrated and the thought of my car that i had just put thousands of dollars into just going to waste had my mind racing so i did the unthinkable and got into my car fired her up and zoomed without paying (i did offer to pay ) . The most damage i did was to their gate which i knocked down with the car but the damage was minimal . I have had my car since but idk what to do .

What do i do from here to keep my car ?
What is the law in California on this ?
Is my car even mine anymore ?

You made a bad situation a whole lot worse.

I'd suggest calling the local sheriff's office and try to work something out before it gets even worse.

If this is a serious thread: You're screwed! First, taking the vehicle would be defrauding an innkeeper(Okla. law wording) not sure what it would be called in Ca. Then leaving the scene of property damage. Even your justifications and whatever you think of the guy being a dick. If he had a legal right to tow you can't just take the car. You had motive, opportunity & intent. No rocket science to get a conviction there. I've gotten felony convictions with less. Just grill em till they spill em. Then you come onto a public forum and confess your doing it.
As said above turn yourself in now and try to make a deal.

My word. That's an incredibly well-crafted treatise that sounds like a mountain of effort to explain exactly how this is somehow all the fault of between one and 4 inanimate objects. I lost count.

You seriously didn't type all that out before calling your local LEO, right? To answer your last 3 questions I'd sure think they'd be a whole lot more credible source of answers than a car forum. Even though you couldn't have picked a more intelligent car forum.

Expect lots of "very expensive details" to work through in the very nearterm. And with likely several more new parties than just the dickhead at the towlot.

And, the most valuable takeaway might be to attend to broke bolts in a more timely manner. And, maybe figure if you had communicated a teeny bit with the "apt complex" on your issues this might possibly have "not" gone a different direction.
That's the best I got.

If in fact you were crazy, and dumb enough to do this, you are in big trouble. I have a masters in Criminal Justice, and at the minimum the cops can get you for: Trespassing, Theft of Vehicle by force, Wreckless Endangerment, all kinds of fees, and potentially lose your license. IF you dont have a current valid license, then easily you could get Severe Probation and Fines, if not jail. I lost my car, due to tickets when I was 18, and I had to walk to work for 2 months, just part of life bud. Good luck

If you had to pawn items for $220 then you have more serious problems...

assuming you can read thia and are not in jail.....

...and no one has contacted you could suck it up and drive to the place with the car, hand them the keys and BEG that you and the shop can work it out. You may need to do more than just pay for whatever damages you did to their property and fees that are owed them. Chances are slim given your description of how this came down...

...but I suspect LEO has already knocked on your door.....or this is a troll

People are easily this stupid, especially when pissed off. Had there been no locked facility or interaction and you walked with the vehicle, very little probably would have came from it. I've seen a towed vehicle left before in an unlocked lot, with no real notification of what happened, and the owner simply drove off, and nothing came of it other than threatening phone calls. But, that's what happens when you leave a vehicle you towed in an unsecure random lot. This, this sounds much more serious.
