looks good man. You should've snagged the trunk lid too! Yeah its always heartbreaking to see the B Bodies like that, but then again, if I found one at a pick n pull with all the interior I would've have felt awesome.

Hood looks good, at least the junk car lives on through others. If the car is indeed a C4C victim the engine cannot be touched anyways.

I saw a BBB AND a DGGM a week or so ago. It was crazy. BOTH were total losses though. All good parts were gone of course, but I snagged a set of lower shock bolts I needed. :)

I still see some grey inside, deffinately get the belts if they arent all frayed. Cut the damn quarters out of that thing!

Also the upper auxillary weather stripping... the big piece that runs from the along the uppermost portion of the doors from the bottom of the windshield to the top of the rear quarter window. That part is hard to find, GM only has the passenger side in stock and its pricey.

He says the car is a victim of C4C and that would mean the engine is useless and untouchable anyways.

Shoot me an email if you may be interested. $125 shipped to you.

I know what it SAYS, I was just curious if he had tried turning the crank. There's evidence all over the internet showing where these dealers aren't following protocol very well. ALSO, I was curious to see if the yard would sell the motor as-is.

Yup, I wasn't going to say anything, but they obviously don't. The lighting seems fine. Regardless, maybe the owner was a ISSF member. HE has the under hood light lense mod going on. REMOVED!;)

I'm sure it would be quite simple to "say" you blew the engine and get it from the junkyard. I doubt the gov is gonna require video evidence of every car being killed. They cannot posssibly track every car the entire time it is waiting to be crushed either. Would be very easy to swap a new VIN tag on and call it a day as well ;)

With one of the nation's best Impala clubs right there in IL, it stands to reason that SOMEONE SOMEWHERE could have been located to buy this car for $4,500 or more.

What a foolish (and likely unprofitable) waste.

Chris96Coprice
08-17-2009, 11:07 AM
The headlights however did catch my eyes..no black strip but maybe they were replaced at some point, but for a IL car this thing had to be garage kept because the floor is SOo0o0o clean!

Well atleast the parts were put to good use hopefully, Id rather see it parted out then a complete crush.

I saw a DGGM 96 at my pick a part. Interior Perfect. Console and all.

Went back about 2 weeks later, no more imp :(

They crushed an OCC too :(

I have seen plenty of unwanted Impala/Caprice/Roadmaster cars in junkyards and crushers long before C4C was even thought of. Most people think of cars as just that, a car. Once they are done with it they could really care less what happens to it. Especially a car that like or not was bought new by mostly older/elderly folk that cared even less than others.

That sucks.. OCCs are a real uncommon sight these days. I used to see atleast 4 differnt ones every year.. Then they all vanished. I need a bunch of trim parts for the OCC or its going to be looking more like a chevy or an buick to survive.

this doesn't make sense. I looked up trade in value on a 96 SS with 100K miles, and in good condition it's 5825, and excellent is 6325......so why C4C it for 4500, when you can get more on trade in??? I wonder if it is a true WX3 car? Was the SPID tag still on the trunk???

It has the right everything... Damn.. Maybe the Rusty inner fenders made the owner think it was a "Clunker" Then again, I see a ton of CFC cars that are worth ALOT more than 4500 on the death line. I see 02 GM fullsize trucks 4WD! IT blows my mind forsure!

More than likely the Owner got suckered by the Stealership into thinking it was worth less in trade for a newer car, than the $4500 Gimmick...

The whole reason why the C4C deal is such a Scam to me, is cause really people aren't getting anytype a benefit with the $4500 incentive, as the majority of the time that is just taking care of the Stealership's Markup on that particular car, but if the Stealership isn't making enough of a profit on it, then they just rework the figures to their Benefit... The Bigger Joke to this, is now alot of Stealerships are making extra money on cars/trucks that they didn't have a markup on, or it wasn't as high as others.... With as Crooked the Stealerships are today, it's no wonder why no one was buying anything from the Big 3, as their Stealerships generally have the Highest Markup over the Original MSRP....

Oh as for the C4C Requirements, the current restrictions state that any Vehicle brought in to redeem for the Incentive, must have their Engines filled with Liquid Silicate, and it ran until the Engines seizes... From there, more Liquid Silicate is also supposed to be added to the Transmissions, and Readends to keep them from being resold as well..:. Any of the Stealerships found not to comply with this, were going to be fined, along with having to repay whatever amount of the Incentives they were given...:

i thought the whole thing to this C4C was that the car had to have an avreage gas mpg of under 18 qualify. unless theese cars are rated under 18 because i just did an internet search and it said 18(city)26(hway).

Wow, it's amazing how many people still believe this ;)

The feds have changed the mileage rating system in the last few years. The dealers go by a list provided by the government as to what qualifies and what doesn't. The new ratings on most all b bodies is 18 combined. That qualifies them to be scrapped.

My 92 Caprice sedan and 94 Wagon both qualified at 18 MPG.

If they had the fuel data for older cars they would also be available for this program. They said they didnt care if it was a classic. I hope stupid people are not buying the engines, rear ends or transmissions at junkyards thinking they are good. I thought they only destroyed the engine? Did you know when you buy a new car you can ask for the sales invoice of what they paid? I think its a law or something. I did it the 2 times when I bought new cars and saved 5000 or 6000 on my 01 chevy tralblazer and 5000 on a 02 honda accord when they were new. I doubt these people doing cash for clunkers are haggleing that much. I also lemon lawed the trail blazer ,it fell apart.

Sinister
08-19-2009, 09:23 PM
They only destroy the engines not the entire driveline. The engines are not allowed to be sold and I bet not all of them are being killed anyways. The cutoff is sometime in the 84 model year. Supposedly they didn't wanna go back into the 70s and earlier because they know not many of them are left and most are quite collectible, hence rarely driven.

Correct, They put a solution in the engine with no oil, they rev the car at 2,000 RPM until the engine seizes. The solution (water, sand and sodium silicate) is like glass when it heats up and fuses the engine. Never to be used again. I work in the auto business and am lucky that my brand really does not have any clunkers that qualify. It is really sad to see some of the cars and trucks that come in and are destroyed.

You can see what happens the these cars on you tube. Just watched one were a 1998 Olds Bravada with 68K was destoryed.

One mechanic has documented every car he has terminated, just to show people how crazy it is. cwm8

Check out some of the cars that dealerships reported collecting for the C4C. Some idiot traded in an Aston Martin DB7!

http://www.cars.gov/files/official-information/trade-in-vehicles.pdf

The cars HAD TO BE IN RUNNING CONDITION!!! The one the OP listed had a blown engine. That means the dealership got f*cked out of $3500 or $4500 because of their stupidity.
