Hi Guys. I bought my 96 Impala last year and I this forum has been a really great source of information about it. I am planning to do the Mueller body mount mod listed in the ss handbook but I have been unable find the 7/8” thick "Pink" body mount part #457915 for sale online. I looked at gmpartsdirect.com and its now listed as discontinued. I googled a bit and the only place I found them was at http://rmsautoparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=457915 but it listed as out of stock. I sent them a email maybe I'll get lucky. The 3/4“ thick "Dark Green" mount #457917 are still available and could use those but I rather use the 7/8" mounts if I could. Will 1/8 inch make much of difference in the feel of the car? I know energy suspension makes a kit but was told that it's too hard and will add a lot of rattles.
I'll try calling the gm dealers around my area tomorrow on the off chance they have any. I'm guessing I'm too late to the game to use oem parts but I hope not. I still can't believe gm left the first 3 lower body mounts off the car! I mean how much money could that of saved gm? 5 bucks a car?
Anybody know of a part supplier that would have #457915 or any sort of replacement kit? Was #457915 used stock on any other car? Perhaps I could search for it that way.

Check with Angel at George Bates Automotive 909-949-7984. He was able to find me some other discontinued body mounts.

When I checked in January of this year with Laura Ruffo at RMS Auto Parts, this was the response:

Well it took some work but I was able get the lower mounts. RMS emailed me back and said they were unable to get the parts from gm anymore. I had to call the parts department of about 6 local GM dealers before found someone who cared about helping me and knew how to look up parts at the warehouse. Guess I’m lucky I was able to get them locally and didn’t have to call an out of state dealer. I all need now is a nice day to install them.
Anybody have a recommendation for replacement shocks? 3 of the original deCarbon shocks are leaking. The car is being used as a daily driver.
Also any recommendations for new tires stock size? I have set winter wheels and tires on right now but for the summer I want to use the factory alloys. I still have original BF Goodrich Comp T/As on my factory wheels and they have about 31000 miles on them! When I put on the winter wheels on I realized how much grip I was missing.
RJI: Nice website man. That certainly is 1 fine caprice.

People recommend Bilsteins as far as shocks go and I would recommend going to tirerack.com to buy your tires. Kumho's Ecsta tires have been recommended quite frequently as well.

At this age if messing with the lower mounts I would go ahead and do the uppers too.
Far as tires, the BFGs sucked new, put a real tire on there and it will transform the car.

UPDATE:
Body mounts ant my local GM Stealer have gone up in price.
They are now $11 and $9 each, instead of the $9 and $7 they were 6 months ago.
GMPartsDirect.com doesn't have them.
Looking for other alternatives.
Anyone with a suggestion?
SaveOldSchoolMuscle: Hope you got the correct Bilstein shocks. There are 2 styles, one is stiff, the other is soft. Go with the stiff one (ha ha) and you will be delighted what a difference they make.

So what is the part number. It might make it easier to get help at the GM dealers.
