: ISSCA 2012 Nats - Back in The Motor City by popular demand!
Big Kahuna 10-05-2011, 01:29 PM Yes it's true. We listened to the feedback and the 2011 Nats hosted by ISSCA and MISSL were, as per the members, a huge hit!
So ISSCA is officially announcing the 2012 Nationals will be heading back to The Motor City! MISSL did such a great job in 2011 that they will be running the show once more in 2012. Don Lambert and the MISSL crew did an outstanding job and were gracious enough to offer to throw the party once again for 2012. After all the hard work to get 2011 going ISSCA and MISSL can build on the hugely positive feedback of 2011 and fine tune it to make 2012 the best Nats yet! Of course it will once again center around the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise. This is what's known as a WIN-WIN!
So...who's in?
BTW, it's never to early to black out these approximate dates on your calendar kids:
Tuesday August 14th - Saturday August 18th 2012
Terry and BK yukkin it up at triple digit speeds at 2011 Nats...

Caddylack 10-11-2011, 07:10 AM I wanted to go to Nats SO BAD this year and just couldn't make it. I've been hoping all along that they would hold it in Detroit again next year so this is just AWESOME. I will be there.

Big Kahuna 12-20-2011, 11:15 AM Don L has been doing a lot of behind the scenes work and has been firming up the schedule. Nothing 'official' but this is about as close to a solid schedule we can get until we lock in the deposits.

There is no event quite like the Woodward Dream Cruise. Driving your Impala down Woodward Avenue with nearly 30,000 muscle cars, street rods, and customs is a once in a lifetime thing. Add in Autocross, Road Racing, Drag Racing, a Car Show, and a Stereo Sound-off and some may call that crazy. We call it the ISSCA Nationals!
2012 Pretty Darn Firm Schedule:
Tuesday, August 14th: Check in and registration
Wednesday, August 15th: Autocross and Drag Racing at Milan Dragway 10am-10pm
Thursday, August 16th: Road Racing at Waterford Hills Raceway 10am-5pm
Friday, August 17th: Car Show at Metro Beach 9am-3pm
Saturday, August 18th: The one and only legendary Woodward Dream Cruise plus ISSCA Awards Ceremony
We are still working on the host hotel. We are leaning towards the same hotel as last year but they are trying to charge us $50 MORE per room per night. Their logic: We checked and last year we were sold out that week. LOL. Yeah you were sold out because WE BOOKED UP YOUR HOTEL! :D We will attempt to fight computer stats with logic, wish us luck with upper management at the Marriott. Anyone have a family member who works for Marriott in management?
Let's get the party started!
Step 1: Rejoin ISSCA. Every membership runs out 12/31 so we all have to renew. Please go to www.issca.org (http://www.issca.org/) and re-up.
Step 2: Register for 2012 Nats. We will open up online registration shortly after the New Year.
Thanks,
Bill
ISSCA VP and Great Guy
TOMSS96 12-21-2011, 01:01 PM Is there any reason behind the change to have it during the week?
I will not be able to close my business for a week to attend the whole event.
I guess I will just try to make the car show & leave the next morning.

Big Kahuna 12-22-2011, 04:55 PM Hey Tom. It's only more day than last year. We added the extra day so we didn't have to try and jam a car show and then a drag race (at a remote location) into the same day. Hopefully you can work it out, would love to see you at the whole event. Take care.
DimosLS6 12-27-2011, 11:02 AM Vacation time is set for tuesday till friday. Gotta go back at work on Saturday. If everything works good, I should make it this year. And maybe who knows, some drag racing...!!!cwm4cwm4
Boilermaker 12-28-2011, 06:40 AM Another reason to think seriously about working out some kind of rotating parking lot patrol during the Nats (or any other major event):
Hi,
Someone stole Jimmy Middleton's Vette last night from his home. This is the second time a friend of mine in the last month this has happened, horrible! You know we need to treat these people as they did in the old west when one stole a horse.
I just talked to him and his car has been found withour major damage. This is great news!
It is about selling the engine first for cash even out of state, I have learned, that no where is safe. We have had this happen to policyholders in Elmore county and Prattville, too, that I know about. Onewas located at a remote home in the country. The cars having LS1 engines and newer engines are stolen and the engines are sold for cash. The engine is the first to go. The cars are stolen with a roll back hauler, many times.
I also had a friend stopped over for one night at the Drury Inn by SAMS and they slide his low 10 second Grand National on to a rollback tow truck between 1:00 and 5:00 AM. I was a 10 year project, super fast and a show car. Never recovered.
A whole rig truck........ .trailer and race/show Grand National was stolen in Bowling Green in Oct at the Buick Nationals. They have preyed on other events in BG and the police and city are making some effort . They host a lot of events and it is bad for their city. Only the car was recovered weeks later, but still togerther. This was a well planed thief, knowing the last day of the event the motels would be full of entire rigs waiting to go home on Sunday morning.
Please be carefull. It is a shame we cannot enjoy aour cars as they were ment to driven. Law enforcement can only do so much and we have some great people working in the river region, but it still happens. These are the times we are living and I wonder the future. We are going to have to go to great measures to prevent this from happening to our cars.
Bob Hinson
Between Cracka's late night drinking crew and the events crew getting up before sunrise, I'm pretty sure the parking lot was well supervised.
But we can try to setup something more official for 2012. All affirmative comments will be accepted as offers to work an overnight shift.
Goldmaster 12-29-2011, 02:55 PM Lol, yeah that weekend I think Cracka, Fishah, and I finally called it a night (or morning) around 5am on Friday/saturday morning and a larger group of us lasted till around 4am the next night. As long as there's still booze left, I don't give up :D
Boilermaker 12-29-2011, 03:41 PM i'm not trying to beat a dead horse here. I know we have a die hard parking lot crew. I just believe this topic should be added to the list of "things to do" and I'll volunteer to cover a few 3 am - 6 am shifts.
Along with having seen the pain of others in the past because no one thought to look out, I seem to remember someone's, albeit a wannabe, car getting hit either while someone was in the lot or after everyone finally crashed last year.
just sayin
rileycoastie 01-04-2012, 09:46 AM i agree, i will volunteer. our cars are special...

Big Kahuna 06-07-2012, 09:22 AM Wow jumped to 27 over night! Keep it going boys (and girls!)
rematar 06-07-2012, 11:10 PM I will be leaving Ottawa around the 10th or 12th. I might be able to get the family to drop me off for part of the 14th or 15th.
I could also leave them behind if I could hitch a ride from someone from the Ottawa area and they could pick me on the way by?
Juggernaut 06-07-2012, 11:16 PM I'm wrestling with this still. Almost certainly going to register for the event and the Cruise BBQ :D and hope I can make it.
Perhaps I missed the info, but has the rate for the host hotel been finalized?

Andrew we ALWAYS appreciate your support, not many know it but Andrew (Juggernaut) registers for most events even though he can't make it and donates to B-Body charities like LISST Drag Day, etc.
Now come and make one of these events, we should be able to get you from the airport and it's always easy to bum a ride to the events from the host hotel...

I'd love to just bum rides, but there are a couple non-B-body people I'm excited to see while I'm there, one of whom lives about 25 miles away from the hotel and doesn't have a car. It'll be on me to drive if we're gonna hang out while I'm there.
The event registration is a steal, and I'm looking at flight prices right now, so my only remaining question is the hotel rate. http://sfw.rightclicksaveas.org/i/g.gif

AutocroSSer 06-14-2012, 07:52 PM For the Saturday MISSL stuff with WDC :
Is the $50 per person or per parking spot?
No problem paying it if I have to (and will be in shortly for the $18 on the BBQ :) ), but likewise I won't have any car there with me (no sense in a POS rental for JUST to/from the airport) so if it is for the parking spot, well, I'm not using one ;)
Ed,
It's $50 is per parking spot. Catch a ride with someone and you're all set.
The $18 is per person for the BBQ lunch and drinks during the day.

I realized after the fact that I probably didn't "need" the parking spot, but it's a small chunk of the week's expenses so I'll chalk it up to supporting MISSL a little bit ;)
Can't wait to see you guys in a couple months!

Chicagoareabmx 07-28-2012, 06:44 PM Hey BK or others in charge!
I was thinking about starting a thread concerning the road course day, covering basic info, suggestions for car prep, etc, since I know there are some that aren't very familiar with HPDE type stuff, and folks like me who are first time Nats participants and curious to how the event will be set up, as far as run session times, etc.
Let me know what you think!
Look forward to seeing you guys in a few weeks and hoping we have some nice, dry weather that week.
Thanks!
