ImpalaFest goes "Regional", October 14-16, 2011

Expanding beyond the immediate Dallas Fort Worth area for the first time in fifteen years, (fifteen years?!) ImpalaFest 2011 has been announced for the weekend of October 14-16 in East Texas / Louisiana.

We're currently planning drag racing on Friday at the Thunder Valley 1/4 mile strip, a car show on Saturday (venue to be named) and an SCCA sanctioned autocross, designed by HOSS's own Rick Bagnard, on Sunday. Young Chevrolet has signed on as the first major sponsor, and HOSS meets on August 13 to continue working out the plans and logistics. Our club support from East Texas and Louisiana has always been strong, so we look at this as a long-overdue opportunity to (partially) help repay their support and we get to have a great, short road trip at the same time!

Watch www.hossimpala.com for more information. Registration will open as the remaining details are firmed up, but save the weekend of October 14-16 for ImpalaFest 2011!

Boilermaker 08-05-2011 06:36 AM

Yea, this is goin on the calendar.

ssimpala 08-05-2011 07:06 AM

I'm in...probably with only one car, but we'll be there! We had a really, really bad hailstorm and I'm a little slow getting the cars fixed, but for sure one and maybe three!

Leadfoot 08-05-2011 08:02 AM

I'll post up more info when I have it. TRRP is a first class facility, with lots and lots of shutdown. It's definitely a big boy track.:D

I'd love to see BK, with his car, for a change!:p

I know it's short notice, but we are going to try and bring ImpalaFest back.

Please consider attending, there is lots of adult style entertainment, just down the road from the track!cwm7

Bad Imp 08-05-2011 09:21 AM

Good deal! I hope to make it to one of these events, as I have heard so much good stuff about them.

Whisperjet 08-05-2011 09:40 AM

Why break an attendance record going back to Impalafest 1998 ! ! ! I'll be there for sure.

Leadfoot 08-05-2011 11:13 AM

Here's a link to the track. http://www.thunderroadracewaypark.com

ImpalaFest 2011 Update

After an enthusiastic meeting of the HOSS club last weekend, we have a couple of updates for you and promise of more to come within the week...

First, we are delighted to announce that LeadFart Racing, in the person of Bob Dannelly, is offically onboard as our second major sponsor. As previously announced, we'll be drag racing on Friday, October 14, at Thunder Road Raceway Park in Gilliam, LA; Bob will also be handling the coordination of the drag racing activities. Watch for further updates from Bob; he's excited about this and we are excited to have his great support!

The Car Show will be held on Saturday at the Holiday Inn Downtown Shreveport, which will also be our host hotel. This hotel is extremely convenient to the autocross venue, just across the river in Boosier City, and is reported to be one of the favorite hotels for drag racers visiting TRRP. Take that to mean their overflow parking is trailer friendly, so whether they are show cars, race cars or a little of both... bring 'em on down. :)

We'll have procedures for hotel registration on the HOSS site when the event registration goes on line, but we can say that the rates will be $99 for King or two Doubles through 9/23, and $129-169 after that date. So plan to get your hotel rooms reserved early. Oh yeah, and they offer shuttles to the casinos, if that's your pleasure.

Autocross will run on Sunday as part of the SCCA region 78 (Red River Region) event #8 at 401 Coleman Street, Bossier City, LA. As good fortune would have it, our own Rick Bagnard is the event organizer which means this one will be Impala friendly!

Now I'll leave it to all y'all to talk among yourself, I've gotta go wrangle some shirts, dash plaques and programs while Ken chases trophies. Man, I thought I got away from this stuff ten years ago... :) Once we have the last couple of expense items firmed up, we'll get registration online on the www.hossimpala.com site and will let you know here.

Leadfoot 08-15-2011 10:56 PM

We will be racing on a TRRP T&T night. We will run a Trophy Street type bracket race. This will be a simple affair, everybody runs in one bracket; winner takes all. There will be at least a first round buyback.

If enough participants register, and are interested in a heads-up class, we will consider adding a natural eight or four, and a big dog eight or four.

We want everybody to get plenty of time trials, and most of all, have fun!

When Dan gets the registration up, please let your preferences be known.

The last time we tried this, I ended up winning most of the trophies, because of the relatively small turnout.

My Impala isn't that fast. I'd love to give out trophies to some faster cars.:p

We are trying something completely different, at a completely new venue. We will at least have a user friendly bracket race, more, if the interest is there.

More information will be forthcoming, as we see if anybody wants to come race, show, autocross, gamble, and other, uh stuff, in Shreveport/Bossier City.:D

ssimpala 08-16-2011 05:10 PM

Can't hardly wait!!!!

Dan Johnsen 08-21-2011 02:05 AM

Don't wait!

I forgot how much I love hacking other people's html. <laugh>

ImpalaFest 2011 online registration is finally online and actually appears to be working! Get on over to www.hossimpala.com/impalafest2011 and sign up!

Same drill as usual, enter your vitals on the registration form and pay via PayPal. If you don't like or can't use PayPal, the "mail-in" registration form will be available by Sunday evening and Randy will happily take your check. I'll begin to flesh out the other documents as soon as the mail-in form is ready for all y'all.

Shreveport/Boosier City, drag racing on the big track, autocross with the SCCA, show in Shreveport, fun and games in the casinos and a chance to see old/new friends. I even told Ken that if he got 200 registrations, I'd buy another B-body just for the event. :)

More to come...

Leadfoot 08-21-2011 09:22 AM

Mail-in registration available

I just KNOW that all y'all were just waiting for the ImpalaFest mail-in registration form, because you just don't trust PayPal. <laugh> No more excuses, now; the mail-in registration is now available on the www.hossimpala.com website, as are the schedule and event location information.

This is a short notice event so there really isn't a whole lot of time to put stuff off and you need to get your Shreveport Holiday Inn room lined up by 9/23. Get on over there and get your name on the list today. And thanks!

hossimpala 08-30-2011 01:14 AM

Come on everybody.

Register, reserve, and relax.

This should be a real no-pressure event, with COVERED car show, and nearby access to casinos.

Notice any difference from previous impalaFests?

Come hang out southern-style, and just take a break from hurricanes, earthquakes, and back-to-school.

But the show can't go on without a little "pre-game" support.

SSee y'all there!

I have to be in Houston that week on business and will be heading home via ImpalaFest. It would be great if Black Sunshine is ready and running but I'm expecting to be in the V.

Oh, and, I'M REGISTERED!!!!

ImpalaFest 2011 Drag Racing Flyer

A funny thing happened on the way to ImpalaFest 2011. The track management at Thunder Road Raceway Park became interested in promoting our little event and asked if we had a flyer they could put online. So now we have one. :)

Jump over to www.hossimpala.com/impalafest2011/ and check out the new Drag Racing flyer. Download it and share it with your friends. Don't leave it all up to TRRP, do some shameless promotion yourself! We appreciate your support and we will appreciate your registration and participation even more.

And thanks to Mike Harris for allowing us to use the super cool picture on our flyer! Now if we can just get a couple of wheel-standers out to IF2011...

Dan Johnsen 09-09-2011 11:12 PM

We Appreciate Your Words Of Support

Thanks to all the old and new friends of ImpalaFest; we really appreciate the words of support that you posted after we announced the event.

Now we would appreciate your registration for the event even more. <laugh> Don't make us start a public radio type pledge drive now, go ahead and register. You know y'all want to join us for a couple days in Shreveport/Boosier City next month. :)

Thanks,

PHILREIF 09-11-2011 08:25 PM

I registered. Hope to make it, but will have to get my car dying issue resolved.

I got 2 of my Impalas out of the body shop (bad hail storm back in April) and have HERSS in the engine shop. I may get to bring them both...depends on the machine shop. See you all in a few days, Bill.

TEAMSS 09-24-2011 12:38 PM

Called yesterday to reserve room and I was told the block is sold out, does anyone have a reservation they are not going to use?

Leadfoot 09-24-2011 01:13 PM

I'm glad to hear it sold out. At least a few people are planning on coming!:) Now, if we could get just a few more.

DVP SS 09-28-2011 11:06 PM

ImpalaFest vendors???

Just bought my 3rd SS (96' DGGM). I owned my previous 2 back in the 90's so I've been out of the game since ImpalaFest 3 back in 1998. Anyways I live in Houston so this "new" location is only a few hours away. However I can probably only make the car show on Saturday (wake up early, drive home at night). I was wondering if anyone here or at HOSS knows if any vendors will be at the car show? At previous ImpalaFest's there was always guys selling tshirts, model cars, after market stuff and all around COOL impala doo dads. There was always some guys under a tent installing seq. tail lights (blink...blink). Basically will anybody be there selling all the cool junk I need for my newly acqired ride. LOL Thanks for the help once again guys!

Leadfoot 09-29-2011 10:30 AM

I'm not aware of any vendors planning on being there. This will be a much smaller event than those in the past, regrettably.:(

I would certainly encourage any and all to attend, but honestly, if the car show is all you have time to attend, I'm not sure you would want to drive from Houston and back, for it.

There may be some planning on coming, at the last minute, but it still will be a small event.

We will race Friday night, and autocross Sunday, as well.
