Car is definitely driveable--I've been putting a few miles in the last couple of weeks. Since it's venting the crankcase under the hood, I've been keeping the window cracked.

The issue is that...

My original question was essentially: "Would a potential buyer be more likely to want to buy a car that needed repairs at a discounted price so he could spend the savings on upgrades, or would a...

Of course it doesn't hurt that your opinion effectively mirrors my own, AtlantaDan but hey. :)

Because that's how discussions work. You state your opinion, I state my counterpoint. Maybe we come to an agreement. Maybe we don't.

The "list" of things wrong is that the hatch only opens one way, it needs touch-up paint in a few spots, and the tint on the rear glass has a scratch in it. Find me a B-body that has fewer flaws and...

Ebay is definitely in the cards--I was just hoping to avoid all of the nonsense involved with it, but I think that it'll widen the audience significantly.

The Caprice is paid off and insurance...

Bump--still for sale. I'm strongly considering having the motor fixed, so if you were potentially interested but frightened off about the potential repairs, let me know.

I get that you don't get out of a car what you put into it. And I get that mods don't add value--for people who don't value those mods. Someone shopping for a stock wagon isn't going to be wooed by...

No, but I would spend $9K if it had a healthy motor. :)

(Seems pretty clear what I'm going to do next.)

Sounds reasonable to me. I mentioned fixing the motor to my wife and she gave me a raised eyebrow but nothing that implied she was against it. The other little stuff is potatoes to get resolved.

Early 4th-gen F-bodies are the least desirable of the breed--why would anyone want one when they could buy a couple-year-newer model with an LS1? It's not a "special" car, so extremely low miles...

If I was poor, desperate and unscrupulous, I could almost definitely get away with passing the car off as having a healthy motor. It drives so well that a person wouldn't know without doing some...

I get that book value on these cars is relatively low, but $2700 for the car you describe sounds like a heck of a deal. My mom (who has even more of an attachment to B-body wagons than I do)...

Should I have the engine fixed or continue trying to sell as-is?

I've got my '94 Caprice wagon for sale. It's got low compression on #1 and probably needs a bottom end rebuild in order to be fully healthy, but it runs and drives great as-is. Here's the thread,...

Bump to a really old thread--the problem ended up being that one of the fans was dead. When I replaced the dead fan, coolant temp with the AC on stayed about the same as it did with the AC off.

If I was going to go through the trouble of R&Ring the motor, I might as well just have the bottom end gone over--by the time I bought a used longblock and paid for the labor, I'd be most of the way...

Thanks! I'm assuming that it's going to need a bottom end rebuild. I could get it taken care of--guesstimating it would cost about $3K or so--but I'm just going to use stock-grade parts since the...

I'll argue that mods do raise the value of the car--to a buyer who appreciates those mods.

The only reason I'm selling is to placate my wife--she's tired of me spending money on it. I don't...

Possible to remove oil pan and #1 piston without pulling engine?

If the motor was stock, I'd concur, but this one has aluminum heads, roller rockers, a big cam, etc. I'd rather sell it without fixing it, so the next owner can decide how to proceed, rather than put...
