Again, you could very easily convert from OBDII to OBDI and buy the softwear, cheap, and know exactly what's going on and make changes yourself as needed or recommended by others.

I like your thinking, but the shims actually circle the axle. They can't be removed until after the axle.

My advice: BFH :) The axle has to go in far enough to remove c-clip. Period

Yes, the lt4 module and the 160 degree thermostat both help. A tune up helps a great deal as well, especially if you're using the 160 degree thermostat as the cooler the engine runs the richer it is...
