Currently produced Headers for the 94-96 LT1/L99 cars.

*If you have a header, current or discontinued, or info that should be added or corrected, Please PM me!!

This is for Parts reference only. These might not be the cheapest locations to get them. Figure prices as a ball park. Also some offer options such as EGR, AIR, Hook-up pipes, Cats, different coating types.

*Note that some offer the option bolt in, some don't. Prices will be given for both if possible.

Header Parts of interest

*Header gaskets, for the head flange.*

Earls Pressure Masters

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EAR-29DD3BERL/

For Tri-Y, Budget heads, Quad-1's, or Long Tube Headers. Generally regarded as the BEST sealing, and lasting header gasket. There is a metal frame that the header and head sandwich. There is a soft Material "insert" that does the actual sealing. These inserts are replaceable, and the frames can be reused. Might be a good idea to get extra inserts incase you have to remove the headers, and the inserts won't re seal. There are other options, but these are very proven. In many cases, you only have to retighten the header bolts once, with these gaskets. Other gaskets tend to require tightening a few more times after heat cycles. *note that they are a THICK gasket, and might cause header to frame clearances on some headers, such as the Flowtechs. If this happens, you might try a thinner gasket, such as felpro's, mr gasket, percy's, etc.

Earls are not your only options. I will be adding other options as I get the correct part #'s sent to me.

*Header bolts*

Headers

*Note that if they are not coated, they are either Raw steel, or painted. If they are painted, the paint tends to burn off. The paint is intended to keep them from rusting in their box. Unless the headers are Stainless, it is strongly urged that you have a coating on them. And even then, there are different grades of stainless. some better than others in terms of retaining heat, and not rusting. The coating does three things. 1. Keeps the heat in the headers, to protect other items under the hood, like wiring, sensors, spark plug wires, A/C lines, etc. 2. Protect the headers from rusting. 3. Potentially help the car produce more power by retaining heat.

There are different types of headers, for different situations. Some locations require your headers to be C.A.R.B. Emissions Legal. Some retain the factory Cat pipes, and Cats in the stock location, and some bolt right to the factory cat pipes. Some require custom pipes to bolt to the factory Catback, and Some offer it as an option.

There are also different headers from a performance standpoint, such as shorty's, mid length, long tube, Tri-Y, or 4-1.

It is generally accepted that long tubes are the way to go for the most performance, and that the only reason to use shorties is if your emissions test requires it, or you just can't bring yourself to use a non bolt-in setup, an can't afford the lng tubes that offer true bolt in. It is also generally Accepted that Tri-Y's will make the most power until around 5000-5500 RPM, and then past that 4-1 headers will make more power.

Summit Performance Headers: $90

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G9001/

Painted, check next listed. These look like JUST like the black jack headers.

Summit Performance Headers, Coated: $190

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G9001-9/

Long Tube, 1 5/8", 3" collector, steel, coated, require custom hook-up pipes to the factory catback (See Note), No O2 sensor bungs. I'm 99% sure these are the same as dynomax's 85001/86001's. There was a guy who does many LT1 builds, claiming they will fit. I have Sucessfully installed a set of these. I am still not 100% done. Link below.

Dynomax Black Jack headers: $130

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-85001/

Painted, check next listed.

Dynomax Headers, Coated: $325

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-86001/

Long Tube, 1 5/8", 3" collector, steel, coated, require custom hook-up pipes to the factory catback (See Note), No O2 sensor bungs, Minor fitment issues on some cars. Sometimes hits the passengers side frame rail, which could require minor grinding of the weld bead. May require clearancing the brace on that side as well.

Flowtech Afterburner Headers: $186

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BIG-49100FLT/

Painted. Check next listing.

Flowtech Afterburner Headers, coated: $326

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BIG-49100/

Long Tube, 1 5/8", 3" collector, steel, coated, require custom hook-up pipes to the factory catback (See Note), No O2 sensor bungs, unless purchased from Jet Hot, Minor fitment issues on some cars. Sometimes hits the passengers side frame rail, which could require minor grinding of the weld bead.

*Note: Clear Image Auto now offers Custom hook-up pipes to the factory catback. But they do require some Fabrication. They also offer a Custom "X" Cross over that bolts directly to them. See parts of interest.

Grottyhan Headers: $550

http://www.impalassforum.com/vBullet...d.php?t=223739

Long tube, 1 3/4", 3" collector, steel. These are Grott copy's. They are not exactly the same, but quite close. These can be had coated, I think. You will need some custom made hook-up pipes. I don't have a site, but Mike Harris shared the info in the link above.

Catbacks for the 94-96 LT1/L99 Sedans.

These might not be the cheapest prices, or only place to get them. The over the axle pipes can be modded to work on wagons, but will not bolt-in as-is.

*Note: Fleetwood owners. Any Impala SS system can be made to work. All you need to do is have about 6"-12" of pipe added to the cat to muffler pipes.

*Note: Parts for a 91-93 cars custom catback are included in "Parts of interest". Check the "215" catback note for details. Also, Tail pipe kits for the wagon are also included. If you wish to build your own custom system, or are on a very tight Budget, check the "Parts of Interest" for some cheaper options.

Parts of Interest, & Build your own Catback parts.

"215" aka Frankenstein Catback: $215+ (realistically $250+)

215 Catback. Link is dead.

There is the link to the ORIGINAL thread. Consists of two, 2.5" Dynomax Intermediate pipes, two, 2.5" Summit turbo mufflers, and two, 2.5" Dynomax over the axle pipes. Then you just get some flanges for the cat to intermediate pipe, clamps, some hangers, Some extension pipe to the tips, tips of your choice, and your set. The Length of the dynomax Resonator, and tip is 23.25". So you would need a combination of pipe, and tips to make up that roughly 24", which is 2 feet. The way it is set up, you would have "stealth tips". If you want the Flowmaster style, where the tip is visible along the bottom of the fender, a minor modification might need to be made to bring the pipe outlet a bit lower. You could very easily add a universal H pipe kit. Or have a muffler shop add one.

*Here is a link to the Dynomax Catback parts list I made. The dynomax link stopped working. you can see the parts that were "stolen".

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n212/MrCadillac_Magnum/ISSF/215Catback.png

Part numbers:

WLK-45688 - 2.5" driver cat to muffler pipe
WLK-45687 - 2.5" pass cat to muffler pipe
WLK-54017 - 2.5" driver over the axle pipe
WLK-54016 - 2.5" pass over the axle pipe

SUM-630225 - 2.5" Summit Turbo Mufflers, Offset in, Offset out

*Note: You can always forget the over the axle pipes, and just have turn downs on the ends of the mufflers. Some guys do it to save weight, make it louder, save money, or to change the tone of the exhaust. Removing the over the axle pipes seams to make the tone a bit deeper, louder, and remove a bit of the snap to the exhaust. But on the flip side, if the mufflers ever thought of producing drone(that buzz like humming while you yawn), you will know it without the tail pipes. When you don't get the exhaust out from under the car, it tends to bounce back into the cabin.

*Note: For 91-93 Sedans, you can use the Passengers side pipes, a single muffler, and have a very nice single 2.5" catback. Or, you can run any LT1 catback, so long as you run some custom pipes from the manifolds/headers to the catback. You will need to modify the trans cross member by either cutting out a section, and welding a plate on the top, getting a tubular cross member(available from Clear Image Auto, among other places), or getting a 94-96 cross member, and mod the bolt holes to fit the 91-93 frame.

Build your own Catback, Muffler's: $40+ a pair

http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?N=700+4294922710+4294923429+4294922711+4294791975+4294791974+4294906131+4294906122+4294904121+4294904125+115&Ns=P%5FSRE%5FDisplayPrice%7C0

Here are some of your other 2.5" muffler options. Nearly any one of them will work with the four "215" catback pipe, so long as the offset is not off to the same side, and the inlet and outlet are not on the same side. 2.5" offset in, offset out. Some pipe might need to be trimmed off the cat to muffler pipes, if you have a larger case muffler(longer), such as the long case dynomax super turbo's.

Spintech Mufflers: $85-$120 each

order of loudest to quietest. 2.5", offset in, offset out.

Universal H pipe kit, 2.5": $35

http://store.summitracing.com/partd...=SUM-642025&N=700+4294891681+115&autoview=sku

2.5", H pipe, 2 center sections to pipe from, aluminized steel, clamps. This looks like a great kit for add an H pipe to a 2.5" catback you may already have, such as the Hooker Catback, or the "215" catback. I have used this kit before, and it works pretty good. An H pipe isn't as good as an X from a performance standpoint, but it's much better than no cross over. It will also even out the exhaust tone, and quiet it down slightly. A great idea if you are on a budget and want a cross over. For about $50 more tho, you could step up to the X pipe kit for an existing catback, or a pypes X pipe if you are still piecing a catback together.

Universal X pipe kit, 2.5": $85

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM-642125

2.5", X pipe, 4 legs from the X, aluminized steel, clamps. This looks like a great kit for adding an X pipe to a 2.5" catback that you may already have, such as the Hooker Catback. Now if you are just piecing your catback together, such as a "215" catback, you would be better off to go with the Pypes Frankenstein Catback. Reason being, the 2 dynomax pipes, plus the universal X pipe kit ends up being about the same cost as Buying the Pypes X Pipe! So you would be saving yourself headaches, and time by using the pypes X pipe. An X pipe, from a performance stand point will boost power over an H, and quite a bit over no cross over. It will even out the tone, and quiet it down some. A bit more than an H will.

Pypes X pipe: $160

http://store.summitracing.com/partd...921571+4294908216+4294905598+115&autoview=sku

This the the cat to muffler section used on the Pypes Catback. 2.5", X pipe, aluminized steel.

Parts for the Stock Exhaust

If you are on a very tight budget, just want to change the sound or can live with roughly 75% of the gains(power, and sound) over a full catback. Here are some options for you.

Information, and pics of WHY you should consider replacing the stock pipes is to come.

*Note: The stock pipes are 2.25" from the manifolds to the mufflers, and then 2" from the rear of the muffler to the bumper.

Muffler Delete

Parts needed for *one side*. Use the stock mufflers are a template for the length, and inlet/outlet placement.

Details coming after I check my setup

Removing the mufflers, and adding "straight pipe" is about the cheapest way to change the sound, and add some performance. You might be surprised how quiet at idle it is with this mod. It is rather loud at WOT, but overall sounds is very decent. The small 2" over the axle pipes, and resonators help keep it in check. Adding headers, and removing the Cats makes it very loud.

Muffler Replacement

Here are some stock exhaust, muffler replacements. Nearly any one of them will work with the stock catback pipes, so long as the offset is not off to the same side, and the inlet and outlet are not on the same side. 2.25", offset in, offset out. They will require a 2.25 OD to 2" ID adapter, to go from the outlet of the muffler, to the over the axle pipes. The mufflers may require a bit of pipe to make up the difference in length, compared to the stock mufflers, which are rather long. A 2.25" "tail pipe"(for each side) from say autozone can be trimmed to make up the difference. 2.5", offset in, and offset out will work, you will just need a 2.25" ID to 2.5" OD adapter, for the inlet of the muffler. which may, or may not make up the difference in length compared to the stock mufflers. For the outlet you will need a 2.5" OD to 2" ID adapter. Reason for using 2.5" mufflers, would be if you planed on doing a 2.5" catback in the future, and wanted to use those mufflers.

Did those headers burn anything up under the hood?

I plan to buy headers (why not the coated afterburner ones !? they look good and I like the "afterburner" principle for more torque !) - then adapter and into frankenstein dual exhaust ... (+ CIA crossmember)

But I have a 92 RMW ... in the sticky the LT1 is the king and I have big difficulties find which headers will fit straight on my L05 RMW ... (no, no more air pump thanks ..)

the afterburners will work on your l03 or 5 as the ac lines become no more an issue. uncoated headers on the lt1 engines always burn the dam wires which in turn kill resistance thru the wire thus producing less power you can always get around this by adding protection or wrapping (which is crap IMO) but for overall lasting performance and practicality i would go coated.
