Welcome stephen1980,

if you are a newb do yourself a favor and download a copy of the SS Handbook (google it)
also we typically recommend the Trans-go kit there is a sticky on it that you want to read first though.
If your car is fine and not needing repairs right away do the reading so who ever does the work if not you, won't take ya to the cleaners...

That doesn't mean it's a good idea. The 4L60e is an excellent trans, and can be strengthened to handle big-power. I know many who use it without problems on cars capable of 10 sec. quarter-mile times.

Stephen,

Why would you consider looking to go with a different tranny.....and why a TH400 vs a 4L80E?

IMO....if you want a rebuild kit for the 4L60E and can do the work yourself, then get a kit from ProBuilt.

If you cannot do the work yourself, then get a tranny from Probuilt.

ProBuilt 4L60E Rebuild Kits

ProBuilt 4L60E Transmissions

Good luck!

I suppose it could be made to work.

But bare in mind that the 700R4 is NOT an electronic tranny, where-as the 4L60E is electronic. So it's not an 'install and forget about it" type of swap.

Personally, I wouldn't pay for an 80K tranny (expecially a 700R4).....or the labor to have it installed in my car.

But hell.....that's just me  .

I would encourage you to fill out your profile to include location. Many specialists in the 4L60E exist. I'm fortunate to have one of those (1FAST94) near me. You are in need of a rebuild, pronto. Burnt up 3-4 clutch packs, maybe a tore-up sprag come to mind. It needs to come out regardless.

I just had a 4L60E rebuilt for 600$. I now have a 0mi trans with a shift kit that bolted right in. No need to add TV cables. Given the cost of a TH400 or 700R4 plus a computer program, all the random brackets to add a TV cable and or vacuum set up, are you really coming out ahead?

Yeah what ever u do dont listen to anybody in ur area that does not no about bbodys specifically. Do not put a 700r in ur car if it already has a 4l60. Thats azz backwards.
