Really high pressure on low side of a/c

1996 caprice that was low on freon,but when i went to refill it it got real high pressure on low side and it was not full, compressor seems to run fine any ideas????

What's the pressure of both high and low side?

65 to 70 psi on low side I never checked the high side because i did not get that far,the system was completely empty when I started and I only put 1 12 oz can in and the pressure went too high, and it worked fine last summer

Is the compressor running constantly when you're checking low side pressure? If it is off or cycling, the reading is not accurate.

That's 65 to 70 with the compressor on or off? What does it read when the compressor runs constantly? It should drop to less than 30 depending on the ambient temperature. What was the outside temperature at the time? Oh and check the high side too. The high side should be between 2 to 2.5 times higher than the low side.
