The gov-bombs came in the TRUCKS, not the cars. So the stock "posi" in your truck would have been a gov-lock.

In other words, you'll be ok putting the sedan posi in your truck.
I must have had a brain fart! Thanks for the clarification.

I just did this exact swap. I took an auburn from one of my roadmaster rears, and put it into my '93 suburban on wednesday along with 3.73 gears. Wedndsay night I drove to Orlando. "So what" u say?; I live in buffalo, ny only 1200 mi away. It was smooth and trouble free.(now just gotta drive back )

I also agree that the auburn is way better than the gov-bomb as I have seen a few exploded ones back in my dealer-tech days.

Have you done a burnout in it yet? Just wondering if it pulls both tires good?

Not in the suburban....too heavy , but in my wagon, many times. Launched it at the track with mickey drag radials on a 100 shot, no issues, and yes, both wheels smoke up evenly in the water box.

The Auburn is a good unit when it works but it's downfall is that when the unit wears out, the entire carrier is garbage. The cone gear means your outside two spiders essentially have teeth on them that grab the machined surface on the inside of the carrier. Eventually it wears out and once it does you can do nothing but throw it away and replace it. An Eaton clutch pack one on the other hand just would need to be reclutched once worn out.

Gov Locks are trash, and have been since 1973. GM is apparently too cheap or dumb( one or the other) to fix a problem that has plagued GM trucks for years. They can explode in the spectacular fashion as above, or just simply quit working. Usually the governor itself will shear off or most likely the tiny teeth on the shaft and activating disc shear off. Then you have a useless open diff. Eaton made an attempt to build a locker that any idiot can drive with. It doesn't work, and that's all there is too it. Look at any video that shows you how it works and you should be able to see that the unit shock loads itself everytime it activates. Yeah........ great idea Eaton, shock loading a mechanical system works ever so well........
