Does anybody in the automotive design industry know what happened to the 42V electrical standard? Back in 2001-2002 it was big news... and now I haven't heard anything about it in several years. What's up with it now?

1. Gas prices
2. CAFE standards 3. GM, Chrysler problems I know, none of those have anything directly to do with 42V. However, that is all that has been in the news. I'm sure the 42V topic is still on the drawing boards (computer screens), test labs, and test fleets.

I also would like to know where the industry is on this proposed standard. Given the yearly increased electrical demand being placed on new cars, something will have to be done. Perhaps there will be a dual voltage system incorporating a transformer. Changing everything at once to a higher voltage would be a tremendous undertaking.
