4501 Safari can only hope to improve
Thumbs up It's called a steering stabilizer...

Try this as it's the same for the Fleetwood as for the Roasmaster:

http://catalog.monroe.com/monroe/pro...catalog=MONROE

Monroe SC2922 or any cross over piece. There is someone on eBay selling a TRW version but does not clearly state it contains the mounting hardware. Monroe does not even mention the steering stabilizer for the Roadmaster anymore. We are quickly becoming extinct in the aftermarket support. It's up to all of us to keep the information alive and NOT become victims of system crashes. What a shame to lose all that knowledge...we "weed" books from our libraries just because the new kids don't read! Would I be typing this without electricity? We can destroy cyber knowledge with the flick of a printed circuit...backup? Why? Remember to download what you think you may need. May not be there next time. (just a mini-rant )

Hmmm....Happy Halloween and time change!

It is a damper not a dampener. It does not make anything wet.

Pay attention, or you will pay someone else later.

Crap, I ordered that one listed above, and its WAY too long. Its about 4-5 inches longer than my stock one. (when compressed fully).
It looks like my stock one has been going all the way in and out, because the shaft is clean as a whistle.

I assume this one will not work right?
Anyone know what the correct part number is?

A damper will not make anything mushy. If any anything, it will stiffen the steering. That damper requires extra oomph to depress and when installed, you can feel it.
Another nice thing is that it can extend the life of your front end. I installed all new front end stuff like 60K miles ago and the front end is still tight. The wide Impala tires put more stress on the suspension and they pass on more vibes. Rather than let the suspension absorb the vibes and prematurally wear out, the damper absorbs it.
A good example- the stock Impala SS idler arm doesn't last worth a damn- why? Because of what I just said. Years ago, my brother in law (who managed a tire store) bought a nice, vintage like GM full size car. Don't remember the name, but it had a frame and the front end looked just like the Impala SS. I put it on the rack (car had like 60K miles) to do an alignment and to my shock, the oem idler arm was still good, car aligned well.
