If you plant new grass seeds you wont want to spray for weeds. use this for fertilizer. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...&storeId=10051
Pet and people safe. Try bayer, ortho or spectracide for weed control.

I have no tips on the lawn, mine is mostly clover and crabgrass (but it stays green). Just wanted to say congarts on joining the homeowner club.

Scotts or Pennington's four-step

Got all the lawn and garden toys you'll ever need.

You know the address.

Found out my yard was covered in thatch. It was about 1" deep in places and nothing was growing except clover and weeds. Borrowed Dad's thatch rake and pulled at least the front yard up. Looks like I'll be re-seeding the bare spots.

Now that all of the weeds and clover are gone, the yard looks a lot better. Going to expand the driveway 2' into the yard and re-rock or concrete anyway so not as concerned about that.

Been hot here in the Lou, Yard is about totally gone from the drought but at least I don't have to mow it. I added some stone around the light post and bush thingies (Honestly they grow so good I have to think they are weeds too but eh)

Future is to brick out the driveway and add more rock. I think concrete is probably better in the long run but that cuts into car $$$ so rock is fine. Besides this is just my starter home.

TX had its fair share of drought. Just bought house #3 here, and large parts of lawn (front & back) were hard dirt/clay, with other areas were brown & nearly bare to the dried up runners. Scott's Weed & Feed works wonders with watering. Now, I can't keep up with the cutting. Every week, it's thick as hell. First two houses (in Louisiana) had centipede & St Aug. This house (TX) has ALL St Aug.

First off as a new home owner myself thanks for caring and wanting to take care of your property. when i moved in all the homes on the block were occupied, fast forward a year latter, and 3 were lost to forclosure. i keep the one right next to me watered and mowed simply because its right next to me and i care enough to do it. the one arcross the street has been sold for a few months and is still empty but the new owners have a service to come and kept it simi looking ok. and the 3rd has had new tenents for a few months and they could care less what the yard looks like, it pissis me off even more that it use to be the nicest lawn and has automatic sprinklers. best tip i can give you is not to mow the lawn to low. the lowerer you go the more the bare spots will show and the grass will yellow at the tips.
