Default tank capacity of SS

I just put 21 gallons in a new project SS I bought recently
What is the capacity as I pulled up the inclined driveway and was leaking from the filler cap

I think the pump didnt shut off automatically or something

That's strange it was leaking. I believe the specs is 23.5 gallon tank. In my first SS I could squeeze 23 gallons in and not much more. My 3rd SS (current one) I only keep a few gallons in it since it's the family's 4th car and doesn't get much use. Except by me when it does. LOL

What happens if I'm driving backwards the wrong way down a one way street?

only on a steep driveway with 21.5, and the low fuel light just came on

was leaking out the hole you put the gas in through and the cap took the cap off and was poring out

but the gas gauge is not accurate at all I put in 15 gallons and it says full will fix if I swap the pump out

It should fix it (low fuel light) if you put in a new fuel pump. The sensor is on the pump which is inside the tank. It's a pain to change them though. You obviously have to drop the tank. If it's running fine I'd leave well enough alone (if the low fuel light doesn't bother you).

About the leaking gas. Do you have the correct/stock gas cap in it? I have a 4-wheel drive SUV and have gone out 4-wheelin with a tank FULL of gas. Up and down really steep inclines, ect and it never came/leaked out. It shouldn't with the proper seal a stock gas cap provides. I have a locking gas cap (STANT) w/o the vent feature on my current SS with no problems as well.

STANT makes gas caps with and w/o the vent feature for our cars. They fit tight and have good seals. Let me know if you need the part no. I put my stock gas cap in the original box in my garage.

BTW...the sensor is usually off to the side of the pump. It has a thin metal "arm" with a floater at the other end. It goes up and down with your gas level. Before you by a new pump make sure it didn't beak or the floater is still attached.

The fuel pump went out in 2000 Escalade. So it had to be changed but about 6 months before it went out, the gas gauge went out. It just bounced around. Even when I put 26/27 gallons in it, it would read empty. As I drove it, it just bounced around (the gas gauge needle) all crazy. Anyways when me and my dad changed it, the floater was disconnected and just floating around in my tank. The metal arm was just bouncing around. Thus the erratic gas readings.

Try running a few cans of Techron thru it, it fixed my bad reading gauge. You can also just run Chevron gas.

I have run mine dry once and the fillup was 25.1 gallons. The also ran it dry once and her fillup was 25.3.

However, if the fuel system vacuum is good, the bottom of the tank may suck up and you'll hit empty sooner.
