Default Painting door handles

I did the search for info on this but only found passing reference to door handles in threads about painting body molding. I was thinking of painting the chrome door handles on my 9C1 black. I'm not too worried about exact color matching as the car needs paint anyway. Heck the front bumper plastic is still it's original unpainted black.

So what would the best process be for painting the chrome? The plastic part looks like a good cleaning before hand would let the paint stick ok. I won't be taking them off the car before painting. Too much effort for a rattle can job.

Give it a light scuff at least 400 grit W&D. The paint does not stick to chrome well to begin with, so give it at least something to grab.

Correct fred, paint doesnt like to stick to chrome. Its always kindofa gamble.

Sand/scuff the chrome with 400, spray a light coat of ETCHING PRIMER, then spray your black paint. The etching primer will increase the odds of ANY paint sticking to bare metal. Keep it around for doing things like your brake drums and calipers.

Good luck

Hey chrome is a hard surface to scratch and if your going to be spray can painting it black you can go as low as 220 grit and stepping it up to 400. Black paint hides scratches well. But clean it good cause no matter how you sand it, if its not clean its not going to stick.

I got handles from a roadmaster because there painted factory so you don't have to worry if it will stick to chrome
