Default Painting door handles

I did the search for info on this but only found passing reference to door handles in threads about painting body molding. I was thinking of painting the chrome door handles on my 9C1 black. I'm not too worried about exact color matching as the car needs paint anyway. Heck the front bumper plastic is still it's original unpainted black.

So what would the best process be for painting the chrome? The plastic part looks like a good cleaning before hand would let the paint stick ok. I won't be taking them off the car before painting. Too much effort for a rattle can job.
