Default CEL and cooling fans won't turn OFF

1st off. Not my car. I tried searching for this but the term "off" is taken out of the search so all I get is posts about people who don't know the fans turn "on" until the car gets really hot. First response is to change the fan sensor on WP which he did.

From member
"Ok so my check engine light is on and my cooling fans never turn off. This is on my 1995 caprice wagon 5.7 LT1. I have been unable to pull codes. I have replaced the temp sensor that is on the water pump. Any ideas on where to start?"

I asked him to pull the codes but apparently they don't do OBD1s at the parts store anymore??? Any advice for him is appreciated.

Going to have to get the codes pulled. Most things that set off the CEL cause the PCM to turn the fans on full-time. I have a OBDI cable and could do it. If the guy is local, PM me.

^^^ what program do you use to pull the codes? I have the cables and Tuner Pro and could not pull the codes. I get to see the live data but show "No errors found" even though the CEL is on.

You only need one ALDL cable. Freescan or Datamaster.

well he got a scanner but it wouldn't connect to the PCM so we are going to give him a loaner to see if that solves the problem(s).

Thanks,
