Even though I seem to be talking to myself here, I'll still update.
New front bearing made no difference.

I'm at a loss, I'm gonna replace the voltage reg tomorrow with the stock one, if that does not fix it, It's goin back and I get 2 free bearings for my troubles as I'm not taking them back out.

This sucks, any recommendations for a 240 amp upgrade from somewhere else?

Where the hell is everyone by the way?

if the noise goes away and the voltage stabilizes at higher rpms, it might be a brush seating issue or the voltage regulator is flaking out.
high output alternators are harder to excite the field into output than stock ones, at least with brushless ones like prestolite.

This one isn't brushless, so there is that, but it makes sense about it being harder ot get output from it.

We were thinking brushes too. They might be bouncing from being flat and new, but I replaced the brushes about a year ago on the stock alt and never had an issue?

Tomorrow I'm gonna try the stock regulator and see what happens.

After that, it's going back.

I do have one more question though, if it IS brushes, where is the whine coming from, maybe the alt tryin to produce power with poor brush placement? I freaking hope?
Thanks.

Im not an electrical engineer but I think its related to the ac current, similar to when you hear a tranformer hum.
Im sure the higher output is thru more stator windings so that correlates.

Brother, this is "something is wrong" type loud hum, not add 100 amps to the system, hum. I could see if the noise came through, while system was cranked and everything was going but this is no load, loud hum, add load, and no hum. Has me mind boggled.

Still has a whine at 700 rpm idle, but the voltage stopped jumping completly.

Put my stock voltage regulator, and 1 year old brushes back in it.

Guy at ASP said it didn't sound like a regulator problem, guess what?

Will my stock one be okay in there, or should I have him send me a new one, I mean can stock handle the upgrade?

Thanks.

I would say the stock regulator should be ok but I'd get a replacement just in case the field current load is greater than the stock reg can handle long term.

and I had a brain fart last night.
forgot all about this, check for AC ripple.
we use a fancy tester at work that does it all in one shot but you can use a meter to check for bad diodes which may cause noise and other issues.

Interesting read, thank you, will definetly check that out.

Would be pretty bad if the recifier was bad too, that would be pretty much the whole kit?

I sent an email about getting a new regulator, and needle bearing as I think this one is shot.

Hopefully they email me back tomorrow

We supplied the parts, YOU did the upgrade.
We replaced everything YOU thought was bad “free of charge” and the problem persists.

You’re the thief, tried doing a chargeback to get the upgrade kit he bought from us for free and is now using.

Caution selling to this guy

Any thoughts?
The only whine I hear is from you because of your incompetence to do a simple upgrade on your alternator. Then you try to scam us…your pathetic!
