If you went buy something, and the store tacked on another 4% for using your credit card, how pissed would you be?

That 2.9% that the SELLER pays, is the cost of you getting quick money, across a variety of payment options. It benefits the buyer as well, as the money gets there quicker, and the paypal protection. I don't think for 1 second that you wanted a check or money order, and preferred paypal anyway. That 2.9% (that you charged 4% for) is the cost of selling, every other person/company/store/seller has to pay it too, your not alone.

Buying from him via Paypal offers BOTH parties speed and convenience.

If he was operating this as a business then yes the cost of doing business argument makes sense. As a private individual not as much. And if you don't want to pay the additional amount then I suggest you purchase elsewhere and stop crapping on the guy
