Default Idle settings for mild cam

For a 118 / 224 with 112 lsa I have idle set to 650 on drive, I like the sound. My question is what/ how far apart do I set my park idle. Is there a range as a rule of thumb that drive versus park should be set? Temp v.s. Rpm of course!

If the idle is stable in gear, set rpm high enough that it charges properly when loaded with a/c in park, but low enough that the transmission doesn't clunk when dropped into gear.

Rule of thumb is the lowest, leanest idle, stable idle is the most efficient. You can have a bigger spread between the two tables with a car that has a stall converter. The OE calibration idles in between 30 and 35 kpa. the lower the number the more vacuum, therefore the most efficiant. Dont crank timing into it to get it to idle there either. Its better to have a low timing, lean idle.

Thanks, good advice. Why do i have an ocasional small audible pop comming from my exhaust from a stop during load up? I cleaned MAF, replaced tps, cables, plugs, tightened exhaust leaks, checked iac. Is this vacuum? Or too much timing, or spring binding in my head?

I changed the fuel filter too. I am going to by a fuel pressure guage. I feel this is a lean condition from starving my injectors. I cant spin my wheels from a dead stop any more., and i have well worth more than needed in mods to make this possible.

I think your thinking right about the issue. If you don't find an issue with fuel delivery, plan on the fuel pump wiring upgrade anyway. It helps the pump to live longer, and it will perform better too. with a modified engine we have a narrower range for "pass/fail". 38 or 39 with regulator hooked up at idle and a snap throttle jump to 45/47 is good. If it still pops and fuel pressure stays steady, we have a spark jumping issue.

Pull plug wires and put a pencil eraser sized amount of di-electric grease inside each plug end.
