I have a pretty simple question for anyone who mouight have the answer. I have a 96 SS and I recently started noticing some bad hesitation when exceleration. I check the fuel pressure and it's reading about 35 at idle. even if I rev the engine up it barely gets to 38 or 39. Is this an fuel pump regulator issue or a fuel pump itself problem
I dont have an answer for you, but I think yours is headed in the same direction mine went. After the whole hesitation one day it started backfiring and running crappy. Then stop running. Won't start. I have replaced fuel pump and it's still doing same. I did not think of regulator though.
the fuel pump 'regulator" can be checked by pulling the vac line off the back and closely look for any signs of wet fuel on that rubber nipple...if wet it is bad
^^^^ adding to the above, when my regulator went i never actually leaked into the vacuum line. it only leaked through the joint on the outside of the regulator. just fyi though.
Does it hesitate right when you push the pedal down, but then runs smooth...like when leaving a stop sign it hesitates then runs smooth? If so, I would lean toward the EGR valve.
