Default starter install

Anybody want want to walk me through on installing a starter that requires shims? I tried searching for delco starter but couldn't find one for a reasonable price. I got a good deal on a starter from db electrical but it requires shims. The last starter I bought didn't come with shims and I ended up chipping the teeth on the starter. Any input would help alot. Thanks.

You need the little metal dowel that comes in the shim pack to check the clearance between the starter and the flexplate.

there is no shimming. Go to autozone, buy a 95 corvette starter. Should be $120.00 Go home and remove your old starter. You'll have to pull some slack out of the power wire, but bolt up the vette starter as it comes out of the box, and call it a day. Hook up power wires of course. Take back core the next day, and be happy. I've never seen an LT1 needing to be shimmed.

What is meant by "taking back core the next day"??

Also, does the car need to be jacked up very high to remove and replace the starter?

He's telling you to take the core back the next day [after installing the new one] so hopefully they don't realize you're returning a non Corvette core.

I for one think this practice is theft and so will the law if you're caught.

I got a high torque racing starter from DB Electrical [smaller body otherwise as original] for under $60 shipped and its great. I used the one factory shim and the clearance is perfect.

car needs to be jacked up high on one side both dont need to come off the ground , also if you get your starter rebuilt like i did, $35 it will save you a pretty penny
