Unhappy The world Knows dal salbaugh

i was on a chevy truck site reading and found the retirement letter dal posted I really miss this guy

November of 07

Hi to all. I guess I have known for a while that I would get
To a point of having to retire but it happened faster than i
Thought. Most of you know of my wife's poor health with the
Parkingson and dimensia and unfortunately it has progressed
In spite of the medications, etc. I feel all of you are like
Family over the past 11 years and want to say thanks to everyone
Of you 9,600 guys that have stayed with me over the years. Most
Of you know I also have my 93 yr.old dad with me so I am running
Out of day before I run out of things to do, so this has promped
Me to back off for a while and do what I can for both of them.

I made the move back in august when vandevere dropped out of the
Internet to go with RMS automotive (these are issca guys) and
Know our cars. All has worked out well and I made them aware of
This change and they will continue to support all of us on gm parts
We may need for future. Their web side is www.rmsautoparts.com and
They have a lot to offer. I will be dropping my 877 phone number
In a week or so but I will continue to have my email addresses
And will help anyone that may need info or help on their car parts
When I can as I do have my gm current parts books on computer.
I will be making up a list of my collection of gm parts paper
Catalogs (have approx. 75 of these) plus a lot of other gm info,
But this will be later on as I purchased a home in Brooksville, florida
For winter use to get my wife and dad in sunshine thru th cold months
So will let you guys know more later. I will continue to lerk as before
And participate when I can on info if I have it. Be sure to tell rms
If you order that you are one of dals special guys

Thanks to all of you, I am still around and well, just slowing down
For a while.
Be sure to drive careful, stay save and enjoy our cars, I still say
There is nothing better coming from Detroit so far to compare,

Dal slabaugh

Funny that I had read about him so much as the go to guy for parts & had read he was a really nice person & when I did order parts from him he definitely lived up to that reputation. Definitely someone that I wished was still around.

I never had the chance to deal with him. (when I got my car he had retired shortly after). But sounds like an awesome guy to deal with.

Thats funny, those were the last parts I ordered from him.

I only ordered 4-5 times through him, he knew his way around the parts bin thats for sure, always spot on and timely. There sure aint many like that.

Dal was a great guy and gentleman with an uncanny memory for GM part #'s.

He is missed!

I had the opportunity to meet Dal in Tulsa in '03. One hell of a stand up guy that always seemed to have the B-body community's interests and well being at the forefront of his priorites.

He is definitely missed.

I remember getting that email from Dal above. Very sad. I believe since then his wife passed away?

The most amazing thing to me was that among the 9,600 customers in Dal's database, every time I called he not only knew me, but knew my friends and would always ask about how certain people were doing.

After he immediately found what I needed he would say "Ship to you direct or to Area 51 or to Scott P in Boston?" Hahahahahaha! He even knew my alternate shipping addresses.

Of course, back in the day, I was on the phone with Dal twice a week and probably spent a small fortune with him...
