Default How to change interior lighting colors?

Hey Guys,

I know we used to have a thread that was a step by step on how to change the lighting on the digital speedo or electronic climate control display from green or light blue to whatever. Can someone do a walk through on this? What about the buttons that light up green or lt blue?

I'd like to change mine to blue or maybe white in my RMW.

TIA!

HVAC controls are '74' bulbs I believe. pull out the climate control module and there are bulb sockets on the rear. I put some cheap red ebay LEDs in there, could be a little brighter. Just noticed you asked about a RMW, I would assume it's the same general idea.

Cluster bulbs are 194's, they are in a twist lock socket. I just crushed the factory clear 194 bulbs out of the twist lock socket and pulled the glass shards out, popped the 194 LEDs in.

Yeah, I have 194 green LED's in my Z cluster in the RMW to match the factory dash/switchgear illumination. I thought that the factory climate control in the RMW had green backing under the writing on the buttons. Maybe there are just green bulbs in them? I've never had them apart.

But someone had also posted how to change the color of the impala digital speedo. Something with disassembling it and using some sort of theater lighting film or something??? I was hoping they could chime back in...

Maybe I just need to start taking chit apart.

It's the jell film that you put over lights to work as a filter. Just find the color you want and put it over the back of the displays and any light passing through will be shifted to that color. Double up the color by also using bulbs in the same color spectrum for an added effect. I can't find the film myself so I'm going with some thin clear plastic and translucent paint in the color of my choice, which is blue.

I knew you'd do the color swap eventually Crovo. You just can't pass up on putting in a stereo as cool as mine

Riiiiiight...

I just totally can't stand when the lighting on each thing in the dash doesn't match! Why the hell does everyone's illumination have to be BLUE?!?!?! Not everyone on this planet owns a friggen veeeee dubbyah!

I already have blue/white on my Impala... But that one was easy! Blue inverted LED's FTW!

I found a simpler solution for you. Pioneer deh-1100ib,2100ib,3100ib all have a usb/ipod hookup like my stereo but the buttons and dial are lit up green instead of blue. It's not a super bright green either. More like the green sony used in the 90's for their stuff.

No thanks. That's bottom of the rung! I already have decent stereos with green illumination anyways. Pioneers. Love em.

I just don't like the green. I especially don't like the green LED's in the Zee clustah. I would rather white or light blue lighting there, so I will switch it throughout the dash.

I peeled off the green film in front of the speedo and replaced with a transparent red project folder I hacked up.

Made the speedo invisible in pretty much any daylight conditions and 'fuzzy' at night... went back to my stock green speedo film, among my red gauges/knobs...

Going to try the 'cinema quality' lighting film that can be found cheaply on ebay, though not expecting any excellent results.. red was a horrible choice
