First, make sure the fuel psi holds good during a drive, then check for exhaust leaks before the pass. o2 sensor. Could be leaking around the back of the manifold, or even at the egr pipe. An egr valve thats not closing all the way or leaky smog check valve could also cause this, but other codes should show up if this was the case. Last, if no leaks are found, try swapping the pass. o2 sensor to the opposite side and see if the code follows (should go from p0174 to p0171). If the code changes, replace the 02 sensor.

Just replace the passenger side front o2 sensor if swapping it to the drivers side makes the code change to p0171, this proves that the o2 that was in the pass. side is reading wrong, instead of the pass. side having a real world lean condition (reset the pcm/clear the p0174 code before the swap test). The back o2 sensors ONLY monitor catalyst efficency. If you need an 02 sensor, AC Delco/Delphi or Denso are the best for our engines.
