Thanks all, progress is slow but I should get some time around the holidays to get the frame indoors, paint it, finish welding up a few things (going to extend the the crossmember support to overlap the boxed section of frame) and finally get the suspension together to make it a rolling chassis.
Still thinking about fuel tank plans. After taking the measurements, the 89 caprice tank is going to be too low for my peace of mind with a 2-3" sump hanging down. Still waiting for it to come in the mail to see for sure though. Going to start doing the measurements to see about using a flanged mustang style tank, weld the sump in and should have a lot more clearance. Not worried though, i'll figure something out...if I have to cut up the trunk so be it...i'll make it look goooood ![]() Tad, I noticed on the canton valve covers...aside from the obvious of not being able to use the greatest invention on earth AKA the GM orange valve cover gaskets, I noticed that where they weld the corners on there is an obvious step up in height after the weld (crappy aligning of the joints, too mind grinding on the weld, IDK). I'm going to lay a bead with the TIG at work and grind it down as flat and level as I can get it and give them a try with cork gaskets. If that doesn't work, screw em. What problems exactly have you guys had with them? We used them on one or two cars at work (bigblocks) and didn't have any unusual problems with them but I agree they are a big step down from OEM in rail design department. Any leaks after modding them and they are scrap but if I can get them to work they would look pretty awesome. BTW, you know I am flying you down here to tune this beast in what, 2022 when I get this thing running? So get ready for a vacation to beautiful NY! lol ![]() I'll get pics of the motor soon. I'll be taking it home from the machine shop and bringing it to my shop to assemble as soon as my machinists is done balancing it for the new pistons. Think i'll be sticking with the LT1, if anyone has an LTCC setup for sale let me know! Plenty of pics of every last detail will follow...but time to work on it is few and far between ![]() thanks for the interest everyone! It really keeps me motivated!

![]() One last pic of the underbody. 2 coats of POR15, two coats of Blackcote topcoat. FYI the blackcote comes out shiny (similar to the uncleared paint on the firewall of our cars) but the bare POR15 has a much deeper, glossier look. I chose the blackcote as a topcote vs bedliners and such because the blackcote you can blast with a spray of brake cleaner, wipe it down and none of it comes along for the ride. Great for cleaning up when things go wrong lol. Random shot: My cheapo harbor freight auto dimming mask, welding up an exhaust for a friend. This thing isn't bad, not like the millers we have at work though.

The canton valve covers seal poorly
the gasket are impossible to alighn durring install you have to glue the gasket to the valve cover pre install Tune it in NY hell yha! I would love to. Stay modivated! do at least one thing a day. If you can only work :20 minutes before or after work that is progress then on the weekends... head down..music on...energy drink cold...go go go~!
