Default Anyone have wiring for compass/temp mirror?

Got one from a 99 Suburban, and also got the out temp part. It has a temp and Compass built into the right corner of the mirror This thing has 6 wires, anyone know what wire does what? And which wire at the radio give the VSS info? I know the temp will not update unless it reads the VSS.

Default Mirror wiring

Here's a good link for ya....http://www.impalassforum.com/vBullet...d.php?t=249373

I'm looking to add one to my car when I get around to replacing the headliner. Not sure how this might crossover to the Suburban but good info anyway.

I've got a RMW where the mirror has map lights and autodim, but no compass. Outside temp shows through the climate control, not the mirror. Is there a plug and play GM mirror that also has map lights and autodim, and would add compass function?

A number of GM and Ford vehicles come with a NEAR plug-n-play mirror with autodim and compass. I say near p-n-p because you have to modify the wiring plug a bit to remove the map light wiring from it(and add the reverse light signal which is optional safety feature to kill the auto dimming function when backing up), otherwise the wiring is nearly the same. And yes a GM mirror will fit MOST fords from mid 90's and up and all of the ford auto-dim/compass mirrors will fit GMs. I even have a couple for sale for $45 shipped to your door (US addresses only). - Peter

Are sure it's from a 99 Suburban? I have a 99 Suburban and the mirror only has 5 wires in a 7 wire connector.

1 pink- 12v with key ON
2 black- ground
3 lt green- backup lights ( prevents mirror from dimming when in reverse)
4 empty
5 empty
6 lt green/black- temp sensor
7 brown- temp sensor

Temp will update without a VSS signal, But if you want to know it's the Dk Grn/wht wire in cavity 16 of connector C2 (10 cavity gray connector) to the radio. How can it be in cavity 16 of a 10 cavity connector, you ask? Because GM saw fit to number this connector 11-20.

This wire is needed to get the display to update in Astro/Blazer overhead consoles.

it might of been a yukon xl but it was a 1999 mine is just like yours but my #4 is a gray wire and #5 is pink like #1 so if i dont hook up #6 the temp sensor will still work just will update all the time? I thought the vss tells the temp sensor not to read when sitting then the temp will be wrong from the engine heat? Thanks for the info

If you don't hook up pins 6 and 7 you won't have a temperature display at all. As Zebrafive said pins 1 and 2 are switched power and ground, pin 3 is reverse signal(to kill autodimming when backing up as a safety feature), pins 4 and 5 are unused but actually go to the outside mirrors when they are equipped with auto dimming feature, and pins 6 and 7 go to the temperature sender which is specific to the mirror, which is different than the temp sender for the Blazer/Bravada overhead console even though they look alike and have the same connector on them. As you can see there is NO speed signal wire that goes to the mirror and will update the display every few seconds. The wire colors may vary depending on the vehicle the mirror came out of but the order will be the same with pin 1 being located towards the passenger side of the vehicle and pin 7 being located near the center of the mirror.

However as mentioned above in the Blazer/Bravada overhead console it does have a speed sensor input which controls the update speed of the display when the temperature goes up(to prevent erroneous readings caused by the car not moving as the temp sender is located near the radiator). - Peter

That's right wires 4 & 5 are for a dimming outside mirror. My Suburban does not have that feature. High end GMCs might.

So I grabbed the temp sensor from it also. Its a two wire sensor. So I need to hook up the pink for power black for ground and pin 6 and 7 to the temp sensor to make it all work. Is that correct. I think the temp sensor wires are the same colors as pin 6 and 7.
