Default 9C1 Springs on Fleetwood with Stock Tires

After exhausting searching, I have to ask if anyone knows if replacing stock FE1 springs on on a 96 Fleetwood with stock 9C1 springs would lower the Fleetwood at all, and if so how much or would it interfere with the stock tire height.

The car sits way to high and floats around way to much, a two inch or so drop would be perfect. I'm a little scared of cutting the springs and would rather replace.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

9C1 springs should be virtually the same static height. They will take care of that float issue, though. To get a 2" drop w/ a stock GM spring would mean going to SS springs.

Thanks! Would swapping the stock FWB springs for stock SS springs require a wheel alignment or interfere with the stock FWB tire height?

Any spring swap is going to require an alignment. I ran SS springs on my Fleetwood with 235/75/15 tires and didn't have an issue.

Thanks, the real question is where to find stock SS Springs. There are no available replacements for them. I may have to start looking at eibach style lowering springs for caprice and try to find something that will match the stock SS spring height. I'm not sure of the availability of something like that though.

Eerthing cletus says. Plus, the OEMs use a very light springrate. Do not cut the stockers and expect anything other than just bottoming out real quick. Ask me how I know.

After trying some Carquest replacements and used Hotchkiss I settled on old SS OEM coils all around - love 'em.

Check Moog for some "stock replacement" style springs for the SS.

IIRC they're made by a company called Cheeta, though I'm not sure "the public" can buy their springs directly. They manufacture and sell to brands. They're a nice quality spring though.

Thanks, I tried moog and delco there are no listings for stock SS Style springs. So I'll have to keep looking for something that's the same height, I think a lower spring for an SS would be too low for my FWB

Do a search for the Moog springs. I know people have said on this forum (Suspension, not Fleetwood) which ones to use.

As for lowering springs, Eibach is a little lower than stock, Hotchkis lower than that, and then there's Sprint and some others that are very low. I've had Hotchkis on 3 Fleetwoods. It was low, but not TOO low (not even low enough for me!). You could always try the Eibach.

Crappy pics, but this is what I have handy at the moment. Taupe is on Hotchkis springs and SS wheels.
