this is for the wagon in my sig (the text in my sig belongs to my stolen 94 not the wagon so don't read that thinking that's what the wagon has)
ever since i did the motor in this i knew i needed to do the gears. then the tranny needed a rebuild last year so instead of a stock rebuild i did a stage 3 with a 3200 edge 9.5" converter. so now i really feel the need for the gears (it has 2.93's). so i come to you with a question: who has 4.10's in their "DAILY DRIVER" (that doesn't see a whole lot of freeway driving). I spoke with a local club member about doing a 6 speed conversion and he gracefully said he would help but now i'm undecided since everything is new (tranny converter etc), so i'm thinking maybe i should leave it alone and just keep it as an automatic. what i would like to hear from you guys is not raw data about rpm's and this and that , i can find that info all over the internet using google, what i really am interested in is your "seat of the pants" feeling if you have the 4.10's in your wagon. so who has it? who's driven one? who has taken a ride in one? your thoughts? input? would appreciate feedback and any input you might have on this

I have 3:73's and I feel like the car "needed" the gears due to my 22's. Now the car moves similar to stock wheels. I have yet to drive the car on factory wheels but the gears are great on the highway and city which is what I wanted. I'm at 2300 rpms at 70 mph.
Now the bad is that I need a driveshaft since I'm part of the vibrations club. This mod has turned out to be expensive

I put some 3:73's in my 1991 9C1 and it really perked it up. The gas mileage was still very good and boy did it accelerate on the highway. I always wanted to try 4:10's in my 1992 1A2 wagon, but I never did it. Please post what you do and the results.
Thanks |

With 4.10 and 27" tires the subconscious "happy place" was just over 60 3.73 closer to 70 Not saying I couldn't-didn't cruise faster With your extra inch tire , you're are going to be smack in the middle of my 3.7-4.1 If you are really not usually driving on the highway, 4.10 might be the ticket for you. Still only equates to 2.87 final Gerry Here's an idea, update your sig, the car is gone

I'm going 3.73 with a 27" tire but after having 2.56's in the wagon. I actually had them laying around otherwise I would opt the 4.10's due to the weight of the car. I'm sure it will wake it up a little.
Gas mileage? Bah. The car is paid for.

I Dont have them.
But I was gonna buy 4.10's from Airmedic a while back. The info I got from him was at around 80mph his rpms were only 3k in a auto and he was on stock impala wheels... That and on the highway if you got on the gas it sure didnt have to downshift to start pulling again. Hope that helps to your decission

i've got 3.73's in the wagon. 22mpg interstate and 16 around town. have towed small enclosed and open car trailers no problem. full bolt-on stock cam/head cam car with built trans and 2800 edge. launches ok at the track for street gears i guess
