I just recently bought all the parts to rebuild my rear end on my Impala to include Moser axles. After everything was replaced I was getting a vibration at cruising speeds. So I took it to Firestone and they balanced my tires but I still had a vibration. Firestone told me they thought my problem was in my rear end. They also showed me that my wheel bearings had a little play in them. So I went back to the shop that installed all my parts in my rear end and they found nothing wrong. They advised that I take my car to a different place for high speed balancing that balances the wheels on the car. So I did..they found my problem to be that the Moser axles don't have the centering hubs like stock axles do that stick out and assist in centering the wheel. Without them it allowed the wheel to be UN-centered on the axle which in turn caused my vibration problem. I still have stock rims and so I should not be having this problem. I'm just wondering has anyone else had this problem and if so how was it handled.

Are these the ones you ordered:
http://www.moserengineering.com/axle...sc-brakes.html You can try to loosen the wheel nuts and then retighten them by hand before torquing them dowm. Last edited by Choo; 06-16-2012 at 02:24 PM. |

Wheels can be either hub-centric (centered by the hub) or lug-centric (centered by the lug). I don't know if, over time, you will be able to keep your wheels centered on those axles with just the lugs if they do not have a centering ring on the hub. The only recommendation I've been able to find is to torque the wheels with the vehicle in the air so that the conical seats on the lug nuts will center the wheels. Because the factory wheels are not lug-centric, you might have a vibration no matter how careful you are, and they might shift and loosen no matter how much you torque them. For now, all I can recommend is to torque them with the car in the air and to check the torque on the stud frequently. I hope someone chimes in with a better solution.

The shop that does high speed balancing tried to center it but told me that it was a hit or miss deal because the it was supposed to be center by the hub. I've already got a authorization to return the Moser axles but was hoping someone else has had this problem and could help me. I would rather have Moser axles than have a stock replacement but it looks like that's what I'm going to get cause I can't deal with the vibration.

I'm running Moser axles in my car. I does take a little extra time when you tighten the wheels, but it's not difficult. Tighten the lugs nuts by hand a little at a time and let them center the wheel. Then I give the wheel a little wiggle and tighten any loose lugs. Put a good torque on them in the air and a final torque them on the ground.

Hmm I'm interested in hearing more about this as I was thinking about also going to Moser axles soon... So if I'm understanding it right the Moser's have a completely flat wheel face and no center hub, can more confirm this because if so I'd probably also lean towards just stock replacements unless there is another forged aftermarket alternative that have the center hubs?

There we go, thanks for chiming in KW. I'm thinking its those particular axles as I would think since Moser makes them as stock gm car c-clip axles an advertises as OEM replacements that they would have the centering hubs just like our stockers. I'd definitely like to hear more when you get through RMA'ing your axles with Moser
