Default H shaped things with calipers?

As a mechanic i'm embarrassed to say this, but i don't have a damn clue as to what these H shaped things are that came with my new brakes. No one at work knows and my car didn't have any. So where do these things go and in what orientation do they need to be installed? Thanks

The Rear calipers have the H clip. The H clips shorter side should go on the side opposite of the caliper piston. The reason is, when the caliper piston pushes out and the clip installed wrong, the spring on the brake pad could bind. When its installed right, the brake pad has its free travel. The outside pad does not move inward. Yes, You need to install them.

No, they litterally look like an H. They are pictured in the link.

FAST

the link just goes to the home page so no pic. If the "H" clip is what post #2 notes...that is it. Rear disc not front....and the orientation is important as noted. It is the "anti-rattle" clip.

if you have a Haynes book, page 9-7, has a pic
