For some reason my wagon seems only be able to go up to 108 MPH once it gets that far that engine revs back. Has anyone had this problem? I think that it is some type of rev limiter or restricter. This is really a problem as i have noticed that the speedometer now reads 10 MPH faster since adding the impala wheels with 255/40/17 tires. so in fact i can only go 98 MPH................HELP

In the 95 wagon the limiter comes in at 108 and off at 105.
There are many ways to fix it and the speedo, all programing related.
#1 You can send the PCM to one of the tuner guys like Brian Herter or Ed Wright.
#2 You can buy an interface cable for your lap top and buy the program from a tuner.
#3 You can get the cable and buy a tuning program like LT1 Edit or Tuner Cat and do it yourself.
#4 You can buy a Hypertec programmer ( costly and limited )
What I did was buy the cable from AKM and bought the LT1 Edit program. I also got a "tune" from Brian to start with.
This way I got a proven set up from a regarded tuner and I can make changes at will with out driving him nuts. There are so many things that can be changed in LT1 edit that I am forever making little changes .
So ,in my opinion, if you have a lap top or can borrow one I would buy the interface cable from AKM and pay Brian to email you a tune. Later buy LT1 edit so you can "play" with the little things.

All of the above is THE TRUTH. I'd like to add that if you plan on topping 100mph on a regular basis you should upgrade the suspension (i.e. - shocks and sway bars). Just for the record, the Camaro convertible cuts out at the same speed.

WOW! 4400 LBS of wagon honking down the road over 100 MPH. No Thanks, Time to buy a Trans AM. I'm affraid to go over 80MPH in mine. It is a wagon after all.

The first time I got my '95 wagon over 100, things got dicey REAL fast. Then I put Hotchkis bars on front and back. Rides great up to 110 (haven't been faster than that but I could do it since I changed the top speed with LT1 Edit).

BTW, I have had '76 and '78 LTD wagons over 100 mph numerous times. They handled it great with no swaybars. They are much heavier than our B-bodies so that may have something to do with it. They also came with something our B-bodies didn't, 4-wheel disc brakes (it was an option back then).

Little bit of bar, a dash of shock, stir in some tires and wheels, mix in a little reduced ride height , sprinkle in some hard bushings and voila you have cooked up a "B" wagon that is quite well mannered at high speed.
Just cause it is wagon is no reason to condemn it. The wagon needs a little help that's all, because there were no perf susp options for it. Take a base "F" body, or Mustang for a terror ride, they are no hell with their base "low rent" susp either.
This is all hypothetical cause all us wagon folks are pillars of the community and would never drive fast.

I'll be running my '95 wagon in the Silver State Classic. I'm starting out in the 100 mph class (80 - 124, 100 average) this first year. But then? 115 (85 - 140) in 2003, 130 (100 - 165) in 2004. But it is a wagon after all. ;)

In this months Popular hot rodding mag in the 10 years ago section they had a 92 BBB caprice wagon all Modded in the mag. It might of been the Impala SS wagon Concept. There was an Impala SS wagon concept. Right?
The article was titled Haulin the Family. The wagon was lowered, it has wheels and a roll pan with the Lincense plate in it.

The 108 limiter is on the wagons for the tire speed rating I belive.

KC Clark. Who made the LTD wagon? Chevy? 4 wheel disc brakes. WOW! Those wagons were called B-bodies too Correct? Just on the larger chassis before they went downsized in '77.

Yeah Wagons make real cool hot rods. You lower em put some wheels, put some sway bars and some other mods and you have your self a real cool looking car.

People gotta learn that these wagons can move! I agree with 95Wagon on how everyone bags the wagon right away when they see one. The person is just missing out on somthing they will never experence. They are some of the coolest vehicles Ive ever seen. You do some mods and its real cool than. Everyone is aways ragging on me becasue I like B-body wagons. There all like those cars suck. Mabey its becasue im 16 and most 16 year olds dont like wagons, so I guess im a bit odd but aint we all? Its cool having a wagon and seeing the expression on people faces when you accelerate past them. :D
Wagons are stable. Mine Rolls some in the turns but if ai get some sway bars and lower springs that should help alot. Now it needs a LT1 or an big block. That would be interesting.
Whats an SUV? Is a 4x4 wagon. I feel the safest at high speed in a wagon than anyother car.
The wagon kindof has an Old person appeal to it. But 91-96s are different. They look dam good for a wagon In my oppion. When you see all modded thats even cooler. It sucks that all wagons didnt sell good. GM gave it a shot. They could of made a SS wagon. That would of sold some. Wagons that are modded get alot more attention than stock wagons.

Ford LTD (now known as the Crown Victoria). Woody version was the Country Squire. They and their Mercury siblings were available with 4-wheel disc brakes from 1975-1978. I can't claim knowledge about what was available before or after those years.

Anyone know if the GM clamshells were available with 4-wheel discs? They could definitely move with the 454 or 455.

OK, you guys are right, I got up to 90MPH tonight and it seemed the faster I went the better it rode , even with all stock suspension. The poor old 305 didn't like it though!

thanx For the support and ideass guyz

the reason I have not responded til now is
that i just took the wagon, and the family on a 3000+ mile road trip from Savannah, GA the Houston, TX. She made the trip no Problem, just dirty now. I encountered the 108 MPH limitation while challenging a Mustang to Fast Lane Domination just outside of New Orleans. I Think I Surprised him even though The Wagon pulled back at 108

As far as the handling I never had a problem at high speeds with the stock tire and susp set-up, and now that i have the Impala 17's and 255/40/17 Z's it handles even better, and I feel very comfortable at higher speeds, even better when i pass by someone and glance over to see the look on there face when the realize i am in a station wagon.

And for the looks, I personally like the look of a modded wagon over that of a stock impala. the long smooth back side gives it a sleek aerodynamic look that the impala lacks. and speaking of aerodynamics...has anyone ever concidered that because of air-flow the LT-1 Wagons might actually be faster that the Impala's ....something to think about.

again Thanx guys.

I have a Bryan Herter computer in my 94 RM wagon w/ the high-speed limiter removed. I nailed the gas @ 75 & it up-shifted into OD @ just over 100 and was still pullin when I finally let off the gas.

Wagons are a bit wider and taller than Impalas. Plus the roof rack has some drag, though the main pieces are easy enough to remove. One would certainly want at least the Impala front springs to drop the nose a bit, also.

I wonder if the smooth bumpers from ICS auto would help, or maybe a front air dam like the impalas would help a few miles an hour more, or is it limited by the computer, what's the fuel shut off programmed for? 108? 110?

Just for the record - I WISH I had this car when I was 16! When I was 16 I was driving a Peugeot 304 wagon that probably cranked out all of 74 French horsepower. Only redeeming trait was the wagon factor! Any 16 year old mocking a wagon is suffering from a severely limited imagination!
